Town of islip Taxes

Has anyone greived taxes in Town of Islip...I greived mine ofcourse I lost, now I can go to small claims court..do I need a lawyer what info will I need I don't want to do this and have no idea what im getting into!

We grieved our taxes but we used Mark Lewis Tax Service to do it for us. They said that it's routine to lose on the first round and that they win most when they go to court which is what happened for us, but it took about a a year and a half total. We got about a $900 deduction and it cost us about a third of that.

We are using Mark Lewis also. Just got a letter last week saying we lost at the first level, so now it goes to small claims court and they win 90%+ on the cases there. They said we won't here back until next spring/fall, so it's a long process.

did you have to pay the lawyer upfront or when the case was finished?

With Mark Lewis, you only pay if they get the reduction. We got a letter giving us 30 days to pay at a discounted rate, or we could pay the full rate after that. Their discounted fee was about $100 less than the full amount so it was well worth paying quickly.

Did anyone not use Mark Lewis and go to court? I grieved myself and lost the first level..I just need to know what going to court entails..

thanks we are deff. going to do this as soon as we get the house. Even if we get $300 off plus star its so worth it.
