Look for the recycling calendar link on the website, it's the brochure they send out to the homes on when garbage day is. There's a map in that link, I think, that shows you what district you're in.

I am in Kings Park and when we moved in we put all of the carpet at the curb and before we got around to calling the town to come take it, they took it anyway!
I have noticed though that the lines between districts are very strange, since I will walk my dog in the morning and the houses at the top of our street have already had their garbage collected, yet sometimes I go home during lunch and ours still has not been picked up, so I have no idea how that works! It definitely couldn't hurt to call.
Our next-door neighbors told us that they have always just put stuff at the curb and the garbage men take everything except landscaping clippings/waste. We have had a lot of that lately but roughly once a month the town comes by and picks that up too.

you know, when i was doing my "research" online i saw the same thing, i didn't know if it was true or not!
when the previous owners moved out they left SO much stuff at the curb (huge bookcases, etc.) and it was all gone in one day.
i'm going to put the carpet at the curb and see if they will take it, if not i will call. thanks!

Count yourself lucky. I have to prune my holly tree a few times a season (I swear it's shrinking into the ground) and I always bundle up the branches like they request on the website. Last time they kept leaving it behind even though they took the garbage in the can. Four garbage days, it took.

I was actually saying that the clippings and anything landscaping/yard care related are the only things they do NOT take. Those are a separate pickup.
