Toxic Friends

Has anyone ever had a toxic friend that after a while they just got fed up with and decided they had to cut them out of their lives?

This is happening to me right now. It makes me so sad, but I just can't deal with the drama anymore!

Re: Toxic Friends

Definitely - As I've gotten older and my life has changed, I've noticed it just doesn't bother me the way it would have when I was younger - I don't have the time or the energy to put up w/ the BS ........ -

You can just take so much and then you need to give 'em the old heave ho and move on!

Yes, as you get older and you mature it is impossible to keep people who cause drama in your life. I have had to cut out a couple of friends, and even some "family" (using that term VERY loosely) who were "life taking" rather than "life giving".

Re: Toxic Friends

Yup, got rid of one just about 2 years now. Although we had so many good times in the past (I knew her for 20 years), it always seemed when she needed something she knew to come to me but when the tables were changed, her a$$ was no where to be found.

Its just easier to not be friends

Yes had to get rid of two in the last few years. It was always all about them all of the time. It got to the point where it wasn't fun anymore to be their friend. So I broke up with them Chat Icon

Oh God yea!

And at first I was destroyed. It happened during my wedding planning. She was supposed to be a bridesmaid and her husband a groomsmen. She hurt me so much..but in the end, I realized getting her out of my life is exactly what I needed. Sometimes I miss her, since we were childhood friends that went through a lot together but then I remember how many times she hurt me and know that she was definately toxic. I am much better off!

Re: Toxic Friends

Absolutely. I've gotten better at "cleaning house" metaphorically in my life now that I'm older..
I was able to end one friendship that was just drama on top of drama...
I'm working on another one now. The current situation is sticky though because, again like many, we've been friends for almost 20 years.

Now, how to get rid of toxic MIL'sChat Icon

Post in about four months when they are toally out of your life. We did this to a friend like yours and it was the best decision ever. Seriously helped us out a lot.

Re: Toxic Friends

Especially at this juncture in my life, I find myself having little or no tolerance for b.s.

I've done alot of house cleaning (so to speak) of several friends lately. It's never easy to end a relationship (regardless of the circumstances), but if it's sort of run it's course or either party is feeling unsatisfied, then maybe it's better if a parting of the ways occurs? I'm still struggling and trying to come to terms with some of it. There is always residual guilt when you think of the good times, etc.

I agree. It's not healthy to have them in your life.
