Traffic Ticket Question
I got a ticket back in March for driving the car w/o insurance. I had insurance, I just didn't have the card on me. I pleaded not guilty and sent a copy of my insurance card back with the ticket. Now I've got a letter from the DMV that my not guilty plea has been entered and I have to appear in traffic court on 2/11/08 what am I supposed to do as far as providing evidence that I'm not guilty. Does anyone know why the insurance card wasn't proof? What do I bring to court w/me?
TIA, Kelly

Re: Traffic Ticket Question
When I got pulled over and didn't have my card on me I had to send them a letter from the insurance company stating I had insurance at that time and never heard from them again.
Maybe that's what they wanted?

Re: Traffic Ticket Question
Kelly, I'm going to FM you too just in case. Because this is reeeeeeally important.
I had the same situation but I never made it to court because my notice was signed for by someone else and they never gave it to me. (long story, not worth recounting)
I didn't show up in court and was convicted of having no insurance.
First, I went with my insurance card. They said not good enough. Then I got a letter from the insurance company. But since it was faxed and didn't have an original signature, that wasn't good enough either.
So I got a letter with an original signature, notorized, and the story changed yet again.
I finally got a lawyer (friend of the family - no charge, thank God) to draw up legal documents with proof, and FINALLY after over a year, I was proven innocent. Meanwhile, my license had been revoked and suspended.
Please go way overboard and get these things before you go in there. Don't suffer my fate! And when it's all said and done, get a copy of your Motor Vehicle Report from someone like your insurance broker and make damn sure it's correct. Mine wasn't, even though they said it would be.
Sorry this is so long, I just really want you to avoid having the problems I did. And always keep multiple copies of your insurance card in the car!
