Training for my first 1/2 Marathon
It's something that I have always wanted to do, and I feel like if I don't do it now, I never will. I have been working out (in a gym) about 6 times a week for the past 9 months. I've gotten a lot of training schedules from the internet, but I wanted some advice from you girls. I vary between the treadmill and eliptical, and I definitely have more endurance than I did 9 months ago. I need advice, tips, support, anything
Thanks girls!!

Re: Training for my first 1/2 Marathon
Congratulations on deciding to run your first half!! Have you ran many other races? Have you decided which half you are going to run?
I personally do not follow training schedules- I go based on how I feel.
What is your longest run so far?
Also, if I may make a suggestion- I know you said you work out at the gym mostly. I would reccomend running outside a few days a week. Runnng on the pavement is very different from the treadmill.

Re: Training for my first 1/2 Marathon
Thank you!!!
This will be my first run. EVER. The most I have ever done at one time is 5 miles, but I know I can get there if I really try. I know I should start running outside, but it's so flippin cold in the mornings now!!

I would reccomend doing a few 5ks and 10ks before the half. Racing is very different than training.
It is super cold out- when I ran yesterday I was freezing (although it probably had something to do with the rain!). Definatly invest in some cold gear!

Thank you for all your advice! I really appreciate it! Would you know where can I find some 5k's and 10k's in my area?

Re: Training for my first 1/2 Marathon
No problem! If you can run 5 miles you can probably start off right with a 10k (although those are harder to find).

Re: Training for my first 1/2 Marathon
definitely check out the NY road runners site also.
good luck! I loved both the half marathons I did - I trained with Team In Training for the first and it was great.
