Transition from FP RNP Sleeper to Crib?!?

Any advice. My little guy is 11 weeks old today and has been succesfully STTN in the Fisher Price Sleeper. Any suggestions on how to transition to the crib? The challenge is that it is obviously flat vs. being inclined.

Also, the back of his head is a little flat and our ped. said to have him sleep on his side or even tummy (when monitored) to help with it.

I'd love to hear some suggestions on this as well. DD will be 14 weeks tomorrow and is STILL in the rock and play in our room Chat Icon We are sooo not ready LOL.....DD has bad reflux so I am going to purchase a crib wedge to keep her elevated. The RNP was WONDERFUL with this issue. DD naps in the crib and she sleeps well through the night. I am hoping when we decide to put her in the crib she does well. I thinks its more my anxiety then anthing. Good Luck to you!!

Re: Transition from FP RNP Sleeper to Crib?!?

I was really worried about it, but then one night at about 7 weeks, I just put him in the crib to see what would happen. He slept through the night with no problems, and has never looked back. Now we only use the FP RNP when he is really congested or after he gets shots (last time he got his shots he had a fever and threw up, so having him right there was great because I think I woke up every 45 minutes to check on him).

DS moves around a lot in his sleep, so I feel like he sleeps better in the crib because he's not tied down to one spot, KWIM? Also we sleep better because if we hear him in the middle of the night we just have to check the monitor and can fall right back asleep, rather than trying to look on him in a manner that won't wake him - which usually wakes us Chat Icon

Was your DS swaddled in the rnp and/or crib?

I was stressed about this too. I transferred DS (but he was in the FP Infant to Toddler Rocker which I think is similar to yours and also on a slight incline) at 3 months with NO transition issues. He was swaddled in the rocker and I kept him thus. Absolutely no problem...

Sorry... I can't help. DD is 7 months and STILL in the RNP. She just will not sleep anywhere else. She loves to be cuddled-in.

I've heard from some mothers who waited even longer (like a year) to move their DC and they said one day she'll just indicate she doesn't want to be in it anymore and she'll fall asleep elsewhere. Crossing my fingers that's true.

I just started transitioning DS to a flat surface this week from the FP rocker to the pack and play....he got up once since we started...and he is falling asleep on his own, swaddled in the PAck and Play...in a few days i will start having him nap in the crib during the day so he gets used to that and then will transfer to crib eventually!

Re: Transition from FP RNP Sleeper to Crib?!?

The night after DD's baptism at 3 months we decided it was time to change her to the crib. She was totally exhausted after being up all day (she refused to nap at all during the party). That night we put her in her swing to put her to sleep (she'll rarely fall asleep without doing this Chat Icon ), then once she was asleep we transferred her to the crib instead of the RnP. To our shock she slept all night straight through (she hadn't really been STTN even in the RnP at that point).

She has been doing great most nights in her crib, she actually seems to prefer it. She was never into being swaddled and I think she liked being able to spread out. Your LO just may surprise you.

Now I need a thread on how to get them to sleep without the swing lol!

LOL thanks...

We are going to Boston for my best friend's wedding in September and part of me hopes she's still in it for the trip because it will be so much simpler to set that up and have her sleep in it than to take the whole pnp (we have to fly since I live OOS and it's too far to drive). She'll e 8 1/2 months then. I know it says to take them out when they start to sit up unassisted, which DD does, but she doesn't try to climb out of her RNP. Once she does that, we'll have to move her to the crib or pnp.

Re: Transition from FP RNP Sleeper to Crib?!?

Thank you for all your encouraging stories. Like many of you, I still like having the little guy in our room. I am going back to work at the end of the summer, so may look to transition then...fingers crossed.

Re: Transition from FP RNP Sleeper to Crib?!?

We tried at two months with no luck.. by three months she was ready for the crib and the flatness in her head automatically corrected itself.

I started transitioning slowly, doing naps in the crib first and then full nights...
