Transitioning from Nutramigen, Alimentum, etc. to Whole Milk (Constipation? Sucess?- Need some help)
DD was put on Nutramigen at about 10 weeks for reflux and gassiness. She had a suspected Cow's Milk Sensitivity but never had blood in stool.
Now she is 1. We started the transition from Nutramigen to milk a week ago. We were doing half formula half milk and it started out ok, but then she started spitting up a couple of nights in a row- once being major, but was after drinking way too much in a short period. We thought maybe the combo was getting to her so we switched to all milk.
2 days in she did not poop and normally does daily. Always been loose and large amounts(sorry TMI!) since on Nutramigen. Always had no problem going and was one of the happiest poopers I have ever seen-lol. On day 3 she went but very solid, dry and really struggled. Was not herself, broke out in a sweat from pushing. It tool her 3 times of going to seem comfy. That was yesterday. Today, same thing going very solid, whimpering, struggling, sweating and going a few times but very solid and with a lot of seeming discomfort.
We contacted the Dr. who advised us to cut back on all otherdairy, push the hig fiber foods and liquids and use pedialax if all else fails. We will see the dr, for her 1 year visit on Monday. DD is a bottle baby and wants little to do with meal aize quantities of food, so alone that is a struggle. Now add this and I feel so bad for her. She just looks so miserable.
I am wondering if this is a sign that she can't tolerate whole milk or if this is just her body adjusting. I am wondering what she can self feed with her hands that will help get over this hurdle, since she hates being fed by us. I am wondering if anyone that went through this was successful with milk in the end. I would love to hear any advice or experiences! TIA

I'm not sure about the transitioning from the hypoallergenic formulas, but I can tell you this--DD was majorly constipated for the first week after we started her on milk. It worked itself out (literally ).

I would give it a little time but if it doesn't get better you could try soy.

We transitioned DS from ALimentum to milk very slowly...like an ounce of milk added to the alimentum at a time, and i waited a day of so before adding another ounce. DS was fine...no constipation issues

I tried this but she had spit up episodes two days in a row and thought it might be the mixing that was upsetting her stomach. She has not spit up since I stopped mixing. I have so much formula I am wondering if at this point I should restart the transition with part and part to see if it helps her go. Have the doc. tomorrow so will ask then. I am hoping she will be ok with regular milk . . . .
