Transitioning from the RNP to the crib tonight...Im terrified..UPDATE! NIGHT 2

I have been SO lucky with DS. He sleeps great! 7pm - 7:30/8am since he was 8 weeks old. Why on earth do I want to disturb this???Chat Icon Chat Icon

My ped told me he should be in his crib by 4 months (this week). I swaddle him still too.

He hates his crib. He wont even nap long in it.

Im attempting it over a long weekend in hopes that by Tuesday, he will have gotten somewhat used to it so I can get some sleep before work.

Any positive experiences? Advice? Support? Am I nuts? Chat Icon

Im terrified that this will be the end of my perfect little sleeper.Chat Icon

UPDATE: It wasnt good.

He went down like a champ (I swaddled him because I always do and I figured one thing at a time). He fell asleep right away and I didnt hear a peep out of him UNTIL......3am...Chat Icon Chat Icon

He was squealing, playing and laughing in his crib at 3am. This went on until about 4am when he must have gotten bored and started to cry. I went in and tried to soothe him back to sleep but that didnt work so I nursed him for a little bit. He finally fell asleep around 5am.

6:20am (Im getting ready for work) he wakes again. I change his diaper and give him a bottle and he goes back down.

Im at work, DH is home and I havent heard from him so Im thinking they are still sleeping. Im exhausted!! Im not used to broken sleep / no sleep.

If anyone has any suggestions at all on what I could have done differently, please feel free to share. Im open to anything.

UPDATE NIGHT 2: Last night was great!

DS went down in his crib @7pm and not a peep out of him until 6am.

He got a diaper change and bottle and back down until 8:45!!!

Im feeling so much better about this transition now.Chat Icon

I have to say, DD slept 10X better in her crib.
I was pertrified, just like you- but for some reason, she would fuss a lot at night in the RNP and I feel like in the crib, she had more room to stretch out, roll around etc.

I started her in the crib still swaddled- she had no issues with that. Then we moved to a sleep sack.
Then nothing once it got warm out.

You may just be surprised!

Maybe he will be just fine. My DD had absolutely NO problem going into the crib. I don't even think she noticed. Chat Icon My DD was sleeping 12 hr. stretches starting at 8wks old too and her sleep was not affected by moving her into the crib. Good luck! Chat Icon

Ever since we moved DD from her Rock n Play to her crib (6 weeks ago), she's sleeping 8 or 9 hours straight instead of 11. So it's less, but it's certainly not bad for an almost-4-month-old. The transition was really easy for us - she slept 8 or 9 hours right from that first night. Good luck!

i would put some toys in the crib and late him play in the rib for a few minutes during the day so he is confortable and used to it. Then try napping and finally put him in at night. I would do this over the course of a week or so.

Re: Transitioning from the RNP to the crib tonight...Im terrified

we actually just did this starting Tues night as well. first night he kept flailing his legs around and kept thinking it was play time. he would lie there and smile at us and coo like he was in no mood to go to sleep.
We just kept rubbing his tummy and shushing him and eventually he got tired and fell asleep on his own. He did wake up several times in the night and needed to be fed around 3:30 (previously he slept 9-10 hrs in the RNP).

Then last night we tried swaddling him (but we kept his hands free since he always breaks those free anyway) and we also elevated the mattress at one end slightly.
He went down this time fairly easily and went to sleep on his own. He slept until 5:30 before needing his bottle.

So i'm hoping tonight he continues getting better and ends up sleeping all night!

Good luck to you.. be prepared to have your night interrupted, but hopefully you'll be ok!

we just made a pact that we wouldn't go in and pick him up unless he really cried. And he didn't.. he fussed a bit, but eventually soothed himself.

I'm sorry. This is my fear. And it seems like DS is ALWAYS sick right now. We are in the cold/ear infection/cold/ear infection cycle right now so I don't know when we can do this b/c I don't want to do it while he's sick.

Do you plan to continue tonight in the crib?
