Transitioning to toddler bed - insights /advice needed!
so... DS (almost 21 mos) climbed out of the crib today. we put him back in and told him to show us how he did it, and he did it again
so we ran out and bought him a toddler bed, but getting him to nap in it was a challenge. i can't imagine what it's going to be like at bedtime tonight
what was your experience with transitioning to a "big" bed?
any advice on how to make the transition easier?
THANKS in advance!

Re: Transitioning to toddler bed - insights /advice needed!
I moved DD to a "big girl bed" a little less than a month ago.
Because we were able to plan ahead for it we made a big deal out of her big girl room and the big girl bed (she is 2.5). It took her a little longer to fall asleep on the first night but otherwise she transitioned beautifully - I think it is because we "hyped it up".
She actually waits for us to come get her out of her bed in the morning.
Good Luck

Re: Transitioning to toddler bed - insights /advice needed!
when my DS started climbing out we went and got him the toddler bed too. i think he was about the same age. we fortunetely didn't have a problem. he just laid down and went to sleep. if he keeps getting up don't even say anything just pick him up and put him back in, at least that's what i was told. it might take a few times for him to get it but he will!!

Re: Transitioning to toddler bed - insights /advice needed!
we transitioned mikayla when she climbed out as well
thr first night, I had to stay in her room pretending to be sleeping on the floor until she fell asleep (this took a few hours) \ after that, she was fine, she loves her big girl bed (we just moved her from her convertible crib to a full sized bed which she loves even more)
She did go through a phase that lasted about 3 weeks or so where she would get out of her bed, cry at the door and then fall asleep on the floor...eventually she stoped doing this though
Good luck

thank you!
we had to take a car ride to get him to sleep, but then when he woke up in the bed he wasn't really upset. so i tried to "hype it up" as much as possible, and i think it worked to some extent. wish i had had time to talk it up more, but we weren't planning on transitioning so soon...

DH just had to lay with him for about 30 minutes to get him to sleep for the night... hopefully he will stay asleep
i have a feeling we will go through a similar phase of finding him on the floor...

Re: Transitioning to toddler bed - insights /advice needed!
We are going through this right now. Tonight is night 2 of the toddler bed. Yesterday she napped well in it, but then climbed out (we have a rail) before bed. Today she napped great and even stayed in her bed until I came to get her. Tonight she went in okay, I am just hoping that she stays asleep through the night - she was up once last night.

Re: Transitioning to toddler bed - insights /advice needed!
update - he did really well last night! no issues, and this morning he played in his room by himself for like 45 minutes before calling for us.
thanks to everyone for the input
