Traveling with a Dog

Any tips to share? We're going away for 2 nights and are taking our 30 lb. puggle with us. What can I do to make the trip easier for all of us? We are driving and staying in a hotel.

Re: Traveling with a Dog

We have taken Casey with us down to Florida

it wasn't too bad.
In the car we had her favorite blanket, so she crawled up on that most of the trip.

We had some treats in the car for her.

We brought her cage, for the hotel room, but she had another idea, so we let her flow with it, cause she went right to sleep and was good.

I just made sure she had a few of her things with her to make the trip as easy and a familiar for her.

As with any time you put your dog in the car, make sure the dog is safely and properly contained (either a dog harness/seatbelt or a crate). Stop often enough to offer water and let the dog out to go to the bathroom.

Try to plan enough things you can do WITH the dog so that he/she isn't cooped up in a strange hotel room alone for long periods of time.

Pack a suitcase just for your dog with it's favorite toys, a blanket and a first aid kit all the food and snacks. I also bring their favorite beds along. Make sure you also bring bowls for food and water. We also brought a baby gate with us and we put it up by the door in the hotel so in case the maid came in, the dogs wouldn't get out. We also put a sign on our door stating that the dogs were inside.
