Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
My DH BIIL SIL and I had a big debate about this the night before Halloween. I said people would be out in the afternoon cause it was a Saturday. They all said I was crazy. Our first TOT'er was there at 2PM. I took my kids out around 5:30. I was ****** when people started ringing my bell at 7 when my kids were in bed, so I had my neice and her friend sit outside to hand out the candy

Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
I think a lot of people started early because of the weather. The forecasters kept predicting that it was going to start raining in the early evening, so lots of ToTs wanted to get their loot before it got nasty out.
They started at noon around here and our last ToTer was around 9pm.
We were out knockin' on doors by 2pm.

Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
this whole thread had me chuckling..
last night i had a huge discussion with friends about what time we all went out trick or treating when we were kids. I'm the only one of my friends who didn't grow up around here, and i kept saying i thought it was odd to see kids out so early during the day. My DH said we should expect people to come out around 12 or 1 in the afternoon and lo and behold they were!
I grew up in Boston - and to us, trick or treating was an evening thing. When we were younger, the parents would still be out with us - everyone just went out at night. I never heard of doing it during the day until i came down here.
Everyone has their own way of doing things, and of course what you are more familiar with seems like the 'right' way to do it.
We had kids continually during the day yesterday, up until we left the house around 8.

Us too! Even on weekends we went in the evening.
I happened to be in NY on Halloween this year and DH and I were in Astoria and saw kids trick or treating at 1pm and going in all the stores. How fun! I had never seen that before. I enjoyed seeing all the kids in their costumes.

I like learning/hearing about customs/traditions that are different than mine!

Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
I'm in CT and we didn't get TOTers until at least 5 p.m. We ended up taking DS around to the neighbors at 6:30ish. We saw a lot of little kids TOTing at night. I definitely thought they'd come earlier b/c kids seem to TOT in the afternoon on LI.

Re: Trick-or-Treating @ 1PM
There is no way I was waiting to go trick or treating with my 18 month old neice after 5pm. We headed out at about 12:45pm. I don't think that's too early for a Saturday. If it fell on a weekday then I could understand, but its Saturday!! I was actually shocked at how few people were out at even 2pm!
