Tried a new place last night - Chop Shop in Smithtown:
Chop Shop Main Street Smithtown, NY
My Review, lol! I have to say, it was SO good that I thought, I *must* post about this!! DH and I went there last night and it wasn't all that crowded although we were a little early for dinner and it is a Thursday - we saw a few other people that were trying it for the first time like us but there was one table near us who had just been there like the week before and said they loved it so much they had to come back again!
I kept saying to DH - this place should be PACKED! We had, for an appetizer, the special: a lobster crepe It was absolutely delicious - and unique! It had big chunks of lobster in it. DH had rack of lamb which he loves and has had at some of the best restaurants on LI - he said this was, hands down, the BEST he has ever had!!!! It looked delicious and was a very big portion - priced right, too. I had the special: seared sea scallops that were like butter! They were so delicious and everything was done with a little twist - so tasty!
We shared a side - mac and cheese au gratin which was TO DIE FOR... that and a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and it was a fantastic dinner!!! We CAN'T WAIT to go back! The owner was so nice - came to the table to say hello. The place is BEAUTIFUL - they renovated it from that bar it used to be and the place is gorgeous.
When we left the bar area was a little crowded which is nice - it seems like a nice place to go for Happy Hour. It is like a Blackstone or a Prime but a little less expensive -- but then it reminds me of like a Honu because of it's location.
All in all, next time you want to go out - try here!!! What a great dinner!

It used to be that bar The Horse and Jockey.
They totally renovated it - it is beautiful now. The owner was telling us about what a PITA it was to renovate it - apparently, it was a nightmare in there! Everything from a bug problem to water damage. On our way in, we could see into the kitchen from the back - it was SPOTLESS. You could eat off the floor and there were all brand new equipment! I was impressed... and you could smell the new wood when you walk in, that is how nice they re-did it all. EVERY SINGLE THING in that place is brand new.
It is on Main Street right near Butera's... If you reach James Cress heading East you have gone too far.

What kind of foods are on the menu? FH and I love trying new restaurants
They had a bunch of apps: shrimp cocktail, fried calamari, stuffed mushrooms, mozzarella/tomato, crab cakes, mussels marinara, etc. (I can't remember everything) and then each section had specials so there were special apps that the waitress told us verbally and we had one (the lobster crepe). I liked the fact that even some of the more common things you find on menus were done a little differently here - I also liked that everything was SUPER fresh and prepared so well.
They had section of soups and salads that looked great. A woman near us had a salad that really looked delicious. Then, they had a section of burgers, wraps (a shrimp and avocado wrap), sandwiches, etc. Then, they had a section of entrees: rack of lamb, a seasoned and stuffed pork chop, seared scallops that were TO DIE FOR, filet mignon, porterhouse, NY strip, etc. They had a few chicken dishes and some other things too. The menu was extensive and had a great variety -- some things were on the higher end $wise and some things were more middle of the road. The specials in general were great and especially for the entrees -- fantastic! The "sides" section looked nice - we had the mac-n-cheese which was out of CONTROL.
Everyone there really seemed to love it and the people near us had been there just the week before. I loved the service - the place is immaculate and so clean/new. The wine menu was FAB -- they had all different stuff you don't normally see!! DH had dessert and all of those sounded delicious - you could tell it was prepared on site. He had Creme Brulee that he said was out of this world. We can't wait to go back!!
I hope this place does well - it really deserves to do well.
HTH!

Re: Tried a new place last night - Chop Shop in Smithtown:
I found this article.
The owner has another location in Massapequa called Hudson's Mill.
That location has a site -- see this link and click on the link for Hudson's Mill on the bottom which will take you to the website.
