Tried Castor Oil last night...BIG MISTAKE!(a little TMI)
So I have eaten that special eggplant recipe 3 times now...nothing. Last night I got frustrated with the rib pain and the crankiness and made DH go out any buy me castor oil. I took a cocktail of 2 TBS of castor oil and a can of pepsi. FOUR HOURS LATER I had to go to the bathroom (diarrea) and had the WORST cramps I have ever felt (and I have endometriosis!!) I thought for sure this was going to be the start of contractions...instead it was a constant cramping for 3 hours and a few trips to the bathroom. The pain was because I felt like I had to go to the bathroom, but it wasn't coming out! I got NO SLEEP last night and feel better today, but I cannot believe I am still not in labor after all that!!
So today I am going to do a lot of walking and nipple stimulation and I have my internal at 7pm. If I am dialted, they will probably schedule an induction. PRAY FOR ME!

OK call me a party pooper but -- if you are only 36 weeks WHY are you TRYING to get the baby out?? Aren't you worried about it being underweight or anything like that? I know 36 weeks is OK, but you aren't "done" yet...

I hear you. You must be so uncomfortable. It can get very hard to breathe, eat and sleep, depending upon how your uterus has pushed your lungs, stomach, intestines every which way.
Every pregnancy is different. Not all women expand outwards, some carry small from the outside but the baby is causing all sorts of rearrangement of their anatomy inside.

I have read that nipple stimulation is the most reliable but I have also read that you need to idelaly do it for three hours a day

I have had dislocated ribs for the last 3.5 months due to this pregnancy. The baby is measuring at almost 7 lbs already and is fine is size. The doctors are afraid my ribs will break and I will be forced to have a C Section, which I really don't want. I have endometriosis and didn't have regular cycles, so there really wasn't a way to get an accurate EDD, so as the pregnancy went on, they started to think I was a little further along then they originally guessed, but there is no way to prove it. So they wanted to wait until I at least hit the 36 wk mark to start anything to be safe.

Re: Tried Castor Oil last night...BIG MISTAKE!(a little TMI)
I am going to be a party pooper too (sorry), but I feel like I HAVE to tell you my induction experience.
It was my EDD with my first baby. I had a sono, determined my fluid was "a little low". I was already 3 cm dilated, so they determined that I was "favorable" for an induction.
Went in, got the Cervidil, within 4 hours, I was in labor, they took it out, brought me to my L&D room (they started the induction in another area). I got an epidural, a pitocin drip, and I got to wait. At this point, I was about 5 cm.
I labored like this for 18 hours... my epi wore off. I got to 8-9 centimeters dilated, and suddenly my labor stopped. I was stuck at 9cm. They upped the pitocin, turned off my epi, tried to get me moving, and no luck. I was like this for about 3 hours.
I ended up with a C/Section due to "failure to progress".
If you are trying to avoid a c/section, then I would try to avoid being induced. One OB told me a long time ago that asking to be induced because you do not want a c/section is like saying that "you want to jump into the pool, but you do not want to get wet".
Its VERY common for this to happen when your body is just not ready for the baby to be born.
I know that there are people out there who have had inductions early, on time, and even late, and that some of them were successful vaginal deliveries, but I just wanted to throw it out there for you.
I know how frustrated and completely uncomfortable you are at this point. You just want your body back and you want the baby OUT. I have been there 2 times, you almost feel claustrophobic... like you want OUT of your own body because you feel completely suffocated from the pregnancy.
I know...
And its SO easy for me to say, because I am only 14 weeks, but I remember the feeling all too well.... Just try to relax... breathe, take a bath, take a nap, just pamper yourself.
I am so sorry you are feeling such discomfort, and I am NOT trying to scare you with my story, just giving you another perspective.
Edited to add: Maybe you can ask your OB to strip your membranes? Maybe that will get things moving?

Thank you for your story...I have heard SEVERAL like this...many people have horror stories about the inductions. It is not set in stone that is what they will do, but once i have my internal tonight we will have a better idea of what all my options would be. I had planned on asking my doctor about stripping my membranes and trying that to bring on the labor...I wanted to try all non medical things first and then resort to medicine if nothing else works. If I am 3cm or more dilated by tonight, then I will probably just wait a few more days to see what happens. But if there is nothing...I have to ask the doctor to do SOMETHING!

wow--your doc will induce you now? mine said the earliest was 37 weeks for liability reasons. 37 weeks were for reasons like uterus rupturing and so on..I thought it was 39 weeks for all other reasons. I dk what brings on labor..and I didn't even know eggplant did anything. Is it a wifes tale or proven?
So today I am going to do a lot of walking and nipple stimulation and I have my internal at 7pm. If I am dialted, they will probably schedule an induction. PRAY FOR ME!
