Trigger Shot *UPDATE*
I took clomid last week, and now I have to get an ultrasound, and possibly a trigger shot tomorrow. Is the shot safe? I am going back and forth about doing it. I am not having an iui or anything, just timed BD.
Thank you so much for your responses! I had my trigger shot this morning....so we are ready to BD! Thank you again!!!

Re: Trigger Shot
I would. That's why it's timed.

Did you have an IUI or anything? Or just BD? Is it safe? I mean, its forcing your body to ovulate right? Is that ok?

No IUI; just BD. To be honest, I didn't do much research into what it was or what the side effects were. I just did it once and got pg that cycle. Once you get the shot, you ovulate 36-48 hours after (I think those are the correct numbers). I don't remember any side effects from having the shot. I have a friend who's had the shot a couple of times and gets bloated afterward.
All of the meds you use when you're on a medicated cycle have some side effects and some risks associated with them. I guess you have to weigh the risks, the potential outcome and your comfort level.

Re: Trigger Shot
Just remember... this stays in your system for 14 days so if you test within that time frame, you will get a BFP either way. My beta this month will be 14 days after the trigger shot to get a TRUE result. Good Luck!!

i think it depends what kind of trigger you did. ovidrel and other sub-q shots tend to be shorter. the IM shot has more HCG and tends to be longer. but all of our bodies process it differently so its a little different for everyone.
for me the ovidrel sub-q shot was gone about 7 days post trigger (5-6DPO).

Re: Trigger Shot
Honestly I am the type to question the safety of everything I put in my body! I never like taking meds unless they're totally necessary- I even toughen out through bad headaches unless it's excruciating...
That all basically went out the window when I started fertility drugs. I started taking pills I never heard of... injected myself with gonal-f AND Ovidrel..
I honestly didn't even give it a second thought. I want to get pregnant so I just use the meds. Everything, especially fertility meds, will have side effects- but for me they have been minimal.. just some bloating or a headache depending on which med.
As far as safety goes, I think it's fine..... and that's coming from someone who like I said, questions EVERYTHING Ovidrel is pretty common too.
For reference- I took Ovidrel with a back to back IUI .... though I was planning on using it when our protocol was just timed intercourse.

It depends which shot you take. The one I'm taking stays in your system for 14 days.

Re: Trigger Shot *UPDATE*
For just timed BD with a "trigger" shot, what is the point of the shot? I know it's so you know when you're going to Ovulate, but is it for people who don't Ovulate on their own? Sorry, just trying to learn what I can before I meet with my doc on 3/18. Thanks!

no...it is not just for people that dont ovulate. The point of the shot is so you know exactly when you ovulate....there is no guess work. It will happen about 36 hours after you take the shot.

Re: Trigger Shot *UPDATE*
Oh, ok. I just wasn't sure.
So is getting a trigger done pointless if you already temp and use OPK's and pretty much know when you O?
Does anyone know if this stuff is covered under insurance not under infertility?
I still have to see if I can be monitored if I use Femara/Clomid and have my insurance cover it but not under infertility? Too many things to "find out". I hope I can. I'm not sure if my doctor will still give me Clomid/Femara without being monitored. I want to be monitored, but not sure if it's covered.

I dont think its the same as temping and using OPKs. You know exactly what day you O and they tell you when to BD. I do ovulate, but my cycle is all over the place, so this is helping me pinpoint exactly when it will happen.
