legitimate question… I know a lot of right leaning people are so against a gun registry… They think that a gun registration would lead to a possible confiscation. But we know the guns kill people all the time. So why is it OK to have a Muslim registry but not a gun registry?
IMO, a gun registry would be along the same lines as a vehicle registry or motor vehicle, for safety reasons.
Singling out a religious group is ethically and morally wrong. The Madman Hitler did it with European Jews, and look what happened with that.
This orange Madman will never get such a registry approved. It will just further divide this country and alienate others.

For the record, I completely am against a Muslim registry.
What I was trying to say was, many right leaning people have said that gun registries are bad. They were against gun registries because they thought that it took away their liberties and they have fears that it could potentially lead to their guns being taken away.
Those same people may be pro-Muslim registry. Which seems hypocritical to me.
I hope Im making sense.

This may sound ignorant but does anyone know how immigration works? I would imagine you have to apply for a green card before coming here. Isn't everyone who has a green card essentially "registered?" It's not like they just open the gates and let anyone in. I think ALL immigrants should be registered because you should be here for a trial period while you face deportation if you commit a crime. I think until you are a US citizen the government should be keeping tabs on you. This should apply to everyone no matter where you are from.

Ellis Island had a registry for immigrants. This would be kind of like that. I think it should be like that so that way people are registered, kept tabs on. We can make sure they are paying taxes and working their way to being citizens. What is wrong with that? And what is wrong with ensuring the safety of Americans?
Undocumented/illegal immigrants do pay taxes - roughly 11 BILLION dollars was collected last year.
There's an application process that enables people to apply for a Tax ID number. The IRS holds onto their passport as collateral (and to ensure they don't skip the country, I assume). Once the process is complete, they file taxes just like you and I do. Other government agencies can't just tap into the IRS's system because they can't inhibit the IRS's ability to collect revenue.

Yes, but a lot are undocumented as well. Look at all the sanctuary cities. They have them for a reason. I am personally against them. I really feel they should be rounded up, registered to live here and then they can stay. If they don't comply, then they can go. What's wrong with that? If we go to another country and don't comply, our asssses are shipped back to the US.

I am not for for gun registration BUT I am for background checks. Why should we have to register guns and leave them to the hands of criminals? Why should good people lose their gun rights? Registration most times leads to confiscation. Again, don't want to go off topic here- this is another debate for another time.

And really? Registration leads to confiscation? So again, ok for PEOPLE but not guns. Though I never heard of mass car confiscation and those are registered.

Listen, it's not the same thing. People have been after the guns now forever. Well, more like since the beginning of Obama's term. Why go after people that use guns for safety and protection instead of the criminals? Chicago has more shootings every week but the media never discusses it. No one is going after responsible gun owners. Do you even read up on what the gun safety groups propose and try and legislate? And not for nothing but everyone's right wing God Reagan had a few choice opinions on guns and gun control. No one wants your damn gun.
As for crime/Chicago it is reported if you use a variety of news sources and if you did you would see how (similar to NY) a majority of the guns come across state lines. So yes loopholes are a problem that registration could help address. But you're right, you won't get it.

If that's your logic, then why just Muslims? It is against the basic founding principle of this country to single out a person or group because of their religion

Here's the thing: most undocumented immigrants in this country came here via legal channels. They overstay their tourist visas or their student visa lapses when they graduate. So I'm not sure how "registering" is going to change that. I find it hard to believe that there's not a visa tracking system in place already. If there wasn't, Obama would've had a much harder time deporting the 2.5 million people he sent home...

If most of us on here have good intentions and want to be genuine with trying to understand and learn different views then I will say that in case you were not aware "rounding up" of immigrants is probably not the best way to put it, its highly offensive. If being offended=what you think is nasty or getting my panties in a bunch so be it.
