Trump wants to delay election
In not-so-shocking news, Trump is calling to delay the election.
https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/30/politics/trump-delay-election-no-authority/index.html
He's also trying to shut down some post offices - which can impact people being able to mail in ballots.
I just don't understand how people can follow the team that is constantly trying to cheat to win.

Re: Trump wants to delay election
He's gaslighting. The report just came out today that the economy has had the greatest decline since 1947. The main thing he kept bragging about, and what was a big part of keeping his popularity up, was the economy. If his only selling point is now the worst level in modern history, it's not good for his campaign. To keep his followers distracted, he yells "Squirrel!" and points to non-existent "unsafe voting locations", and "mail-in voter fraud".
So, it's not safe enough to vote, but it's safe enough to open up everything else and go back to normal, and not wear masks....

Trump wants to delay election
Yeah, it definitely feels like he's scrambling to deflect the negative.
It wasn't at all obvious that's what he was doing when he started telling people to wear masks and maintain 6 feet. He had to read it off a piece of paper, instead of winging it like he usually does.
I just don't understand how people eat up all his BS. His base is rabid about voter fraud, but Trump and a lot of others mail in their ballots. Or have emails on private servers. Or refuse to send their kids to school.

It's crazy re voter fraud and his base. Someone posted a meme on fb like it was true recently saying "No wonder the democrats want schools closed, it is where people vote". Uh. I voted in the primary in a school on June 23. One has nothing to do with the other

Does anyone really trust mail in ballots? This has been an issue many times for other elections. There is no reason we can’t go and vote in person.

For his followers, logic and truth don't matter. It's only about "us vs them", and "them" is anyone that trump points a finger at. Mexicans, China, Democrats, Hillary, Obama, Fauci, masks, etc. Throughout history, it's always been easier to follow a leader that says "All of your troubles are THEIR fault. It's not you, it's THEM. Your life would be wonderful if THEY weren't in your way....."

Seems the process is trusted by Trump, Pence, Ivanka, Jared..Kayleigh... there’s a long list of all Trump admin/associates/cabinet people who vote by mail.

We've had mail in ballots for decades. The military does mail in ballots. They've done studies, where out of something like 100 million votes, maybe one or two dozen were fraudulent.
Trump obviously trusts mail in ballots, since that's how he voted. So did a lot of his family.
There's no reason we can't vote by mail. In 5 states, everyone gets a mail in ballot by default. It's up to each person to either mail it in, or go in person.

It’s ironic that the guy who won the election the last time around is afraid of fraud. Polls last time had him pegged as losing and he won, to the surprise of everyone, even him. I wonder what is he so afraid of this time?

This is not true. Cases of voter fraud with mail in ballots have been very, very minimal.
A lot of people don't vote in person because they have to work (polls not open late enough in some cases), not everyone has easy access to a polling place, many politicians are making it harder to vote in person (look at people having to wait on line for SEVERAL HOURS to vote - that is not a free and fair election).

Re: Trump wants to delay election
Agree with the above. Plus, the real issue isn't the right-wing talking point of fraud by mail in votes. The real issue is voter suppression . It happens mostly in lower income areas and targets minorites where they only have ONE polling place and long lines. Happens mostly in red states. Hardly shocking.
Counties with larger minority populations have fewer polling sites and workers per voter. 1/3 of voters who have a disability have an issue voting. Purging voters is also an issue - 16 million voters were purged between 2014 and 2016. And some states restrict registration by making people register a certain # of days before an election.

I’m a democrat and am very vocal about school opening. I don’t understand this mob or gang mentality. If you believe in one thing then your automatically put in a bucket. I can be a Democrat, who hates trump and Cuomo and still want schools to open so my son can get a good education. So unreal.
I remember Chris rock touched this in his stand up years ago. How there are things he’s liberal about and other he’s conservative about. Obviously, it was comedy so it had a brash punch line but the premise was so on point.

I agree with you - and I am also a democrat
This whole thing is so confusing because people (not you Sash) don't understand what they are saying. I know people who are staunch republicans who think this will all go away after the election. Uh. So that means you want Biden to win to change it? That its a conspiracy by the democrats to make Biden win? Or that Trump will make this a totalitarian state? Like what do these people even mean?

Trump wants to delay election
So he's suggesting delaying voting until it's safe enough to do it in person, but Trump and friends claim it's safe enough to open schools and the economy ASAP. Strange how that works.

He cannot delay the election.
It doesn't work that way.

This.
Republicans generally must suppress the vote otherwise they cannot win.
Democrats are the silent majority.
ETA - To be clear, I'm obviously not talking about all state and local elections, although I am sure that is true in some of those. I am talking about the national level.
A Republican president has won the popular vote once in 30 years. On a national level, the will of the people is clear. They need the Electoral College coupled with their dirty tricks to succeed.
Don't even get me started on gerrymandering which also works to silence the black and brown vote.

One has nothing to do with the other.
The president held an INDOOR rally, removing social distancing stickers from seats and someone who attended that rally DIED yesterday. Who knows if he contracted the virus there, but still.
We were talking about the presidents claim that it is not safe to hold an election -but in his world, going to school and going to rallies are just fine. Pointing out his hypocrisy and total lack of leadership on this issue, not debating what is and isn't safe in the overall picture.

Hypocrisy?? Like when Cuomo went to Georgia in the middle of them having their highest numbers, disregarding all social distancing and mask usage, hugging ppl and smiling from ear to ear when all along he has demanded everyone to wear masks and social distance?!? Now THAT’S total hypocrisy. I wonder how many ppl he exposed to the virus

100% The whole "labeling" mentality kills me! I vote on the issues, which sometimes align right or left. I am not registered to a political party. Now, we're being labeled by BlueLM and BlackLM supporters. Infuriating.

Trump wants to delay election
Absolute gaslighting. If you encourage a thousands-person rally in Tulsa, then you certainly support socially distanced an monitored elections at polling places. Voter suppression is a much bigger issue than voter fraud by mail. The nationals abroad, disabled, elderly and generally busy Americans have been voting via mail-in ballots for decades. In 2002, electronic voting was introduced via iPad. Millions of votes in the 2016 election were absentee ballots.

Imagine you won the powerball. Would you mail your ticket to collect your prize or take it in person? Now, ask yourself the same question about mail in ballots.
