Trying to join Facebook and it says my email is already a member?!?!?

So I'm giving in and finally joining facebook. I have all these "invitations" that my friends keep sending me to my email so I decided yesterday to just join. I enter my first and last name to register and my email, and it asks for a password. I enter one and then I click submit and it says invailid email/password combo???? So I'm thinking that means that i'm already a member somehow.

I seriously do not remember ever signing up, I know I haven't. Also, I still am getting invitations sent to my email as of last week. So I think to myself, maybe I registered and just don't remember...so I enter every password I've ever used and nada. So I click on "reset password", you type the words you see on the screen and it says it will email you a code so you can reset it. That was yesterday and I still haven't gotten anything. I checked my junk/spam folder too and there's nothing blocking a facebook email where I wouldn't get it. I clicked on find friends and typed in my first and last name and there's one person with my first and last name (maiden name). And a picture, of course I don't know who she is.....is it possible she listed my email address as hers???

I'm just so confused, am I just doing something totally stupid and it's a very easy fix?? I tried to find a way to contact someone but I don't see anything.

Can anyone help this Facebook virgin???

you can fix the problem yourself!

go to the signin/registration page, click on help (bottom right-hand corner), click on sign up (the 1st choice in the topic "using facebook"

then click on My confirmation email doesn’t arrive.
then click on click here (it's a hyperlink in the last sentence)
and then follow the directions from there
