TSH levels
the rest of my CD3 bloodwork came in. everything is normal except for my tsh level. it's w/in the normal range for a woman not trying to get pregnant, but too high for RMA's liking. they want it between 0.4 and 2.5 and mine was 3.84.
i'm going tomorrow morning to have more bloodwork done to see if they get the same numbers. if it's still high, i will have to go on meds to lower my thyroid levels. my nurse said that women with levels above 2.5 have a higher chance of having a child with learning disabilities.
has anyone taken meds to lower their TSH level?

Re: TSH levels
actuallly more up to date research shows that anything over 2.0 is not optimal for good health period, especially if you are trying to concieve. you can research at the american journal of endocrinology or at a fave website of mine www.thyroid.about.com for all the latest most knowledeable info !
its a good thing they found it. i had that tsh once for a few years and it went away ( weird right?) and took meds. the meds were no big thing at all as long as they didnt give me too much. i hope you check out the website i gave you...gl!

Re: TSH levels
Mine TSH levels were about the same as yours. I have been on synthroid for 3 years. I take the lowest dose, 25mg. And it keeps it at 2 or under. Though if you get pg you need to check that number ASAP. But, as long as they are aware of it, you should be in good hands. If it creeps up you just add a higher dose of meds. Good luck!! This is one of the easy fixes.

thanks! i can't believe my level was so high! the nurse asked me if my mom has a thyroid issue b/c it can be passed from mother to daughter. i asked my mom and she said that she doesn't have an issue and neither does my grandma. she is going to ask if any of my grandma's sisters have an issue. she doesnt know of any other female relatives that have a thyroid issue.

Re: TSH levels
My maternal Grandmother actually did have a thyroid issue too. Though no one in my family knows the details. Mine appeared when I got pg 3yrs ago. I am sure it was higher than 4.7, after my m/c I waited a month before I went to an RE, where i was tested. A week later it was down to around 3 something. I was REALLY tired and taking naps all the time. I thought it was just normal when someone gets pg. Didn't even think it could be something else.
I have a good friend that has had TSH over 8 and she manged to have two healthy children. She was on very high doses of synthroid but it was controlled and fine.
Hopefully the meds work fast (I think they did) and you can start again really soon.

Re: TSH levels
i tested at 7 and the dr put me on synthroid right away - after a few weeks it got down to 2.6 . I am seeing a regular endocronologist who is constantly adjusting my meds and she wants to see the number no higher than 2
Also if you do get a BFP - you will have to go to an endo monthly since your TSH levels get wacky when preggo
