TTC and looking for a new job
DH and i are TTC now but i'm just miserable at my job and want to start looking for a new one. but DH feels that it would be a bad idea because what if we get pregnant as soon as i start a new job? he thinks that my new boss would be upset and that i wouldnt have accrued enough time for maternity leave. he wants me to tough it out where i am now and look again after we have a baby.
but what if it takes months for us to get PG?? dont get me wrong, i love the work i do and i love my coworkers, but my bosses are unbearable! im getting to the point of dreading going into work everyday.
what would you do? would you send out your resume and see what happens? or would you just tough it out where you are now?

Re: TTC and looking for a new job
I have been there numerous times where a job makes me sick I hate it so much. But with the job market these days I would be scared to leave. If you can I would try and stick it out. But in the end you need to make a decision that is best for you.

Re: TTC and looking for a new job
The only issue would be FMLA. You would not qualify. You have to be working for your company for 1250 hours/1 year to be eligible.
But that's a lot of "what ifs".
While I really wish you get PG as soon as you start TTC, you might not get PG right away. The average is a few months. You just never know what will happen. I would not put my life on hold for TTC. BUT I would move to a new job that will matching/help my short and long term goals.

Re: TTC and looking for a new job
as someone who was TTC but then got laid off last week, I'd say send out the resume but realize that this job market is so tough right now, as I'm learning firsthand!!

Re: TTC and looking for a new job
I've got the same issue. I'm a guidance counselor, so if I leave for another district I give up tenure (and my hopes for an extended maternity leave). I'm probably going to stick it out, then look for something else while on leave.

Re: TTC and looking for a new job
If I were in your shoes, I would continue ttc & stay at my company since the economy is bad & you've accrued time of & then I'd look for a new job while on leave. We've unsuccessfully been ttc for 6 months. I am currently at a new company. I've only been there a month so far but we putt ttc'ing on hold until I've been there 3 months because maternity leave usually kicks in after you've been there a year.

Re: TTC and looking for a new job
I don't see harm in sending resumes, but as my grandfather said-Don't throw out the dirty water until you have clean water. Say NOTHING to your co-workers (I made that fatal mistake)
I am in your boat-we are moving to Florida and I have to take the Bar and find a new job in this crap economy!

Re: TTC and looking for a new job
I would be scared to leave my job right now because of the economy, but if you are that unhappy then send out you resume and see what happens. It never hurts to look.
