Tubes & Ear Infections

1. Why is DS still getting ear infections?

2. Why does the doc treat it with drops not oral Rx?

This is getting ridiculous alreadyChat Icon

Re: Tubes & Ear Infections

He still has infections after the tubes?Chat Icon Don't tell me that. Liam is getting tubes in two weeks.

Maybe they don't want to expose him to so many antibiotics. My son has C Diff right now from too much antibiotics and he is soooo sick. You don't want that to happen. Chat Icon

Re: Tubes & Ear Infections

There is a new school of thought also that a lot of ear infections are viral and they are trying to not treat with antibiotics first line unless in doesn't clear after a select amount of days.

Re: Tubes & Ear Infections

Yep AJ still gets ear infections. Tubes are a 100% cure of them. Its just a way to reduce the severity and number of them. It by no means makes them immune.

Drops instead of oral for so many reasons. The tubes are now open lil access to the tubes that fill up with fluid in their ears. Its a more direct approach and less likely to cause build up of resistance to the antibiotics. The reason we gave AJ tubes was she had been on just about every antibiotic out there to avoid her from becoming resistant to any one type .. frankly we were running out of choices.

Hope he feels better soon.

Re: Tubes & Ear Infections

OMG I feel your pain!!! DD had tubes put in a couple of months ago....and has had THREE ear infections since.Chat Icon Im so upset by this. 2 were treated with drops...one started out with drops but was progressively getting worse so they added an oral rx to the mix. I went to a 2nd ENT thinking maybe the tubes werent put it right or something but he assured me they looked good and said some kids still get the infections. It stinks.Chat Icon Chat Icon
