Tubes and Still ear infections? WTH?
DS got tubes in December. He had puss/crusty wax coming out of his ear so I called the ENT - they said its an ear infection.
Why did we get tubes if he is still going to get ear infections?
FOLLOW-UP QUESTION: Is there a difference between inner/outer ear infections? Why do they treat ear infections with drops if you have tubes and not an oral Rx?

Re: Tubes and Still ear infections? WTH?
My twins both have tubes and I saw ALOT of wax a few days ago.....it's drainage from the ears which is a GREAT thing and exactly what's supposed to happen. Without the tubes, it would be yet another infection that would need antibiotics. With tubes, you still get infections, but it all drains out. At least, that's how I understand it......

DS doesn't have tubes in his ears, but just yesterday he had a lot of discharge from one ear and I thought he had an ear infection too. But we went to the dr and it was all clear....

Re: Tubes and Still ear infections? WTH?
AJ got her tubes in on Jan 15th
She had a raging ear infection that day and got another one the week after. We took her in on the 4th of March for her official 6week followup and she has yet another ear infection.
This one is so bad its actually pushing her tube back out.
they say discharge is a GOOD thing. AJ had none The discharge means the yucky stuff is not staying in and building up more pressure and or staying yucky so the ear infections should be easier as well as shorter.
They say overall its a significant drop in total number of ear infections by not a total exclusion of them.
We're back on Antibiotic drops ourselves. Better (i think) than oral antibiotics.
Hope your baby feels better soon.

same here, miki had that drainage once and they gave her ear drops
but like you said, without the tubes, she would have had yet another ear infection

You can still get ear infections with tubes, especially if water has gotten in to the ear. I, believe, the tubes are to drain the fluid but won't guarantee that ear infections won't happen...the tubes just make it less likely.
