Tummy time and swing questions
Tummy time: Lately when we've tried tummy time my DD gets so upset the second she goes on her tummy that she cries hysterically to the point she is sweating. Doctor said to put her flat on a blanket, but should I put something under her tummy to "prop" her up? I've tried a small pillow, but she still cries horribly and regardless of my moving her head to the side she moves it such that she burries her face in the blanket. Is this something they grow out of and how long should I leave her on her belly hysterical? I feel so bad that I pick her up after only a minute or 2. I know that can't be enough time.
Swing: I bought DD the Fisher Price Papasan swing... she loves it. I'm not one to use it as a "babysitter" all the time, but it has allowed me a moment to go to the bathroom without DD screaming - which is a God send. For every minute I'm taking care of something else I spend an equal amount of time "talking" with her and playing with her. I even read her a story or 2. Now for my question... how much is too much time in a swing? Is there such a thing? She loves the thing, which is great, I'm also wondering if it's too much on her neck b/c as she swings from side to side she moves her head to look at me when I talk to her. Is that at all harmful? She naps in it occassionally too, but not for long. Most of the time she's awake but content and smiling and giggling. Just wanted to know if you can "overdo" the swing.

Re: Tummy time and swing questions
Tummy time is important, most babies don't like it, but maybe try to get one of those baby mirrors with toys on it and put it in front of her. They also make some toys specifically for tummy time at BRU.
As far as the swing, I don't think it's bad at all, just make sure she isn't favoring one side of her head while lying in it which can cause neck muscle issues (DS had that problem).

Re: Tummy time and swing questions
My son hated tummy time and now he likes it 6 mos. later. I don't think it is productive if she is crying. I wouldn;t force it.
As 4 the swing, if she likes it let her swing in it until she gets bored.

Re: Tummy time and swing questions
There are days my DD loves tummy time and other days she hates it. I've been using the boppy on the floor and putting her on her belly on that and she seems to like it.
DD loves the swing. We use it every day. DD has taken some of her best naps in that thing. Thank goodness for Fisher Price!

Re: Tummy time and swing questions
Ryan doesn't love tummy time but we did try to put him down on his belly at least a few times a week for a few minutes. Oddly enough, he still doesn't like it but he began rolling back to belly at 13wks and that's all he does now - flip to his belly and hang out there. But, it's like he only enjoys being on his belly if he got there on his own
I can't tell you to limit time in the swing b/c Ryan spent A LOT of time in there untill recently. He was even sleeping in there for a portion of the night but we cut that off about a month ago. Now I try to split his naps in swing and pack n play b/c I want him to get used to napping in the pack n play for when he goes to daycare in the fall.
