Full time working moms - questions for you...
My friend and I were talking about this, and I was so glad to see that I wasn't the only one -
I'm talking those long working hours, and doing most of it on your own with very little help (she does have parents that are available to babysit, and I was still shocked to hear the following:)
How often do you shave your legs? Granted - its winter - but we were both hysterical to discover its been months... I finally did the lower half recently so I can wear skirts and rolled up sweatpants!
Last time you had a mani/pedi? The last time we had one done was when we went together - Dec 23!!!!
Last time you had a haircut? Hers was December. Mine was a little more recently - last month - but before that, it was in the fall...
And - if you have one kid and are thinking of having another, do you seriously wonder how in the world you will make it work if you don't have time to even shave your legs one time a month?????

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
I have 3 kids and I totally understand where you guys are coming from. I see the world getting away from me most of the time.
As for legs-maybe once a month? I use the Intuition razor. It works well and it cuts down on the step of opening the can of shaving cream and then putting it on your legs. Yeah I know that sound pretty funny but who has time to do that with a kid cying or banging on the door. Wow just typing this made me teary eyed. I forgot what it's like to take a long shower!
Mani/Pedi was, wait how old is ds-9 months, yeah 9 months ago right before I went into the hospital.
As for my hair I MUST go every 6 weeks because if not my entire head would be gray I think. I always give my DH plenty of warning of rthat so that there are no excuses about when I go.

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
Um, the shaving....not as often as I used to
Went for a pedi the day I was being induced. That's it. I used to only get pedis during the summer, and I'd do them myself during the rest of the seasons...my toes were ALWAYS done....now, not so much.
Hair, I try to go every 2 months.
Yup, I definitley have gone downhill

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
I shave my legs every other week, b ut I don't really need to, for a hairy italian, that is one area where I am not that hair
I haven't had a madi/pedi since before he was born, but that is because I don't have the time and because for a long time it just wasn't in the budget.

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
I just shaved my legs about 2 weeks ago. Before that it was about a few months - I'm being totally honest! I only work a few days a week and still am just lazy when it comes to shaving.
I haven't had a mani/pedi in YEARS!!!!! I clip my nails myself and polish. I figure if I can save $10-15 every week than that's great!
Hair cut was the beginning of December but beofre thatr, it was in January.

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
Not sure if I qualify since I work pretty much work 9:30-5pm but with a train ride I'm home by 6:30pm
I shave probably every 2-3 days. I can't stand it much longer than that.
I get my hair colored every 3 weeks - either on a Saturday or on a weeknight. Finding a place that's open late was a godsend for me. (Salon Domane - on 25A - around the corner from you).
Manicure/pedicure - it's not really my thing but I get pedicures in the summers probably 1x a month.

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
I try to shave once every weekend.
The last haircut I got was about 3 months ago (and I *keep* saying I need to go get one!).
Last pedi was about 4 months ago - but that's not unusual for me since I don't get them in the winter really (and I hate manicures so never get them unless I have to - e.g. a wedding).
I've never been one to 'pamper' myself so I guess I haven't changed much since being a full-time working mom!

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
I shave my legs once a week so that's not as much of an issue, but my last haircut was in September (ughhh) and my last pedi was in December (heinous!) The pedis are more about budget and trying to save (we're big savers) so I cut back, but the haircut is finding the time. I can't seem to get a few hours to myself for that. In fact I had an appt. two weeks ago that I had to cancel.

Isn't a full time working mom one who works 5 days/week?? At least to me, it is (and by all means you qualify ).

Yes but she said those with long hours. I guess if you add in the commute I would qualify.

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
I try to shave my legs once per week. But I do it when DH is home. (I am swimming, so I am exposed more than most women. )
I've never had a manicure. Last pedicure was as I entered my third trimester and couldn't reach my toes.
Last hair cut: I did it myself the night before my baby shower in July. I was hormonal and hated my hair. My car was in the shop for weeks and I couldn't get anywhere, so I flipped out one night as DH slept.

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
Last mani/pedi was the day I got induced on 10/17 I've since bitten my nails down so low from the stress of going back to work.
Last cut/color was mid November although I made an appt for Tuesday because when I went back to work I realized how terrible I look. The ponytail I rocked while on maternity leave just isnt cutting it at the office...
And shaving my legs, I couldnt even tell you

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
I shave my legs pretty often - I don't like it when they get stubbly.
I think my last manicure was on my wedding day. I don't get them because they never last for me.
I haven't had a pedicure since the summer, but that's pretty normal too. I get them biweekly in the summer.
And I just got my haircut and colored on Thursday.
I have a pretty high-profile job so I have to look put together.

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
I'm not back at work, but this is funny! I was just looking at the forest on my legs the other day and realized the last time I shaved was for my 6 week ob-gyn appt., almost 4 weeks ago!
What does it mean when you won't do this for DH but you will for your female gyno?

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
I know what you mean....
Shaving...I still try to do it daily in the shower (but my hair is blond & doesn't grow that fast.
Last time mani/pedi: was the week I delivered.
Last haircut: October for her christening
I do wonder how its going to work w/ the 2nd...esp. b/c DH takes her when its convenient but hasn't changed a poopie diaper in months & wouldn't have any idea about her sleep sked, etc. At times I'm running ragged around the house, w/ baby on my hip & throwing wash in or feeding the dog & I ask myself how am I going to do this w/ 2 & continue at work.

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
I don't have really long hours, but I work FT (8 -5) 5 days a week with NO help at all weekdays. So I'm NON stop until about 9pm every night.
On weekdays I always shower before DD gets up (or at least before I go in and get her) so I can take at least a 10 - 15 minute shower in peace. In the summer I will shave just about every day. In the winter, maybe once or twice a week.
I get my hair cut and colored every 8 - 12 weeks. I don't do manicures, because with all the handwashing, dishes, baths, etc. they chip in a day!! I do try to get a pedicure every 2 - 3 weeks in the summer and once a month in the winter.
It's my alone time - DH gets his in his own ways and I make sure I get mine. He doesn't mind. A happy mommy = a happy daddy
OK ask me again after DC#2 is born

SHAVE MY LEGS! I didn't notice I hadn't shaved my legs in at least 2 months until I was having acupuncture in my thigh and I was suddently MORTIFIED that my legs were like a forest! My husband never mentioned they were hairy...so I shall keep them hairy indeed!!

Re: Full time working moms - questions for you...
Shaving- who even thinks of it! I just did it yesterday in preparation for my trip to Mexico. It had been FOREVER.
Mani-pedi- my SIL treated me for my birthday on Dec. 29- I am embarrassed to say I haven't touched my toes since then so I am going today or tomorrow since DH is home and DD will be napping.
Haircut- finally did a mommy chop yesterday- Can you tell I waited until my exam was over to do all these chores!
