Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
I went to a friends party 2 weeks ago and "won" a party. After thinking about it and having a tight schedule I emailed the woman and told her I had to cancel the party. She writes me back and told me I have to have the party in order for my friend to get the free stuff. So now I feel bad if my friend doesnt get her stuff..
Is this even allowed? I honestly thought it would be fun to have a party but I really would not want anyone I invite to get stuck in this trap...I been to other parties before and experienced nothing like this
So what do I do?

you won a party... you didn't book a party.
I'd tell that person to go F themselves... and tell your friend 'dude sorry if you lose out on something but this woman is nuts.'

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
did you play a game specifically where they said someone would win a party and not to play unless you would actually like to have a party??
I recently had a candle party and there was a game like that. the consultant warned, if you don't want to actually have a party then don't play and a lot of people opted out of that game. all was fine.
with that being said... yes it's true your friend does lose out on hostess credit if you don't have a solid party booked. they won't lose ALL the credits they earned... because the amount of sales at the party also equate to credits. Usually, booked parties do add up to more credits though.
but that doesn't mean you HAVE to have the party. you can still say... things came up and I can't have one right now. the credit will be taken away from your friend and that's OK. your friend should understand. they can't FORCE you to have a party.
however, if there was a game and that warning was stated to begin with then I would say the right thing to do would be to have the party... unless you seriously could not have one. if there was no warning beforehand then that's almost like trickery to me. if there's a warning then no one would get stuck in a trap because they were forewarned.

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
She did say you could win a party and at first I didnt mind. Then I was told it had to be within the next 3 weeks. Things have been crazy around here and I honestly just cant do it. When I won the party I didnt realize it had to be within a specific time frame. The next few months are crazy and I wouldnt have selected it if I would have known that.
It was bad that I got involved in this game but I told the women I was sorry and explained my situation so she gave me an extended couple of weeks to have this damn thing.
I swear I will NEVER attend one of these things again...What a bad situation..

Awww, I'm sorry she is being a bully! She is most likely lying to you. Direct Sales people are told to say that so they can guarantee a booking, because that is how her business stays afloat. I am familiar with another direct sales company that they tell you the same thing, but in reality they wouldn't take the free stuff away from the original hostess. Were you the only one who booked a party?

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
I did Party Lite - they tell you to do these kinds of things to get more parties, but really, they don't take away the hostess benefits. The hostess gets her benefits based on the sales of the party - the other "benefits" of future parties are really at the discretion of the consultant.
I'm not exactly sure how Tupperware works, but I think she's full of crap. If you don't want it, don't have it.

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
That happened to me at a friend's party. I "won" a party. Woohoo.. what a gift! That was not a game. It was actually a calculated guilt trip.
I could not find people to come before the Holidays, I was about to start big renovations in my house. No way! I had to cancel. I emailed my friend to tell her. Then emailed the woman I could not do it.
In reality, the host does NOT lose because you don't have the party, she just does not get EXTRA credit for it.
I hate this nonsense pressure and guilt trip. I came to a party. I shelled out $150. I don't need to be sucked into some crap.
If I want my own party, I will do it when "I" want.
Tell her to back off!

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
I dont know how Tupperware works, but with lia sophia you did need to have two parties booked in order for the hostess to get extra credits or whatever.
However, when i did the games I warned beforehand that you have to be willing to have a party to play this particular game. If you are on the fence about having your own party, sit this game out. Did I have people back out days later? Yes. Nothing bad happened it just meant their friend, the original hostess, lost credits. When I would tell that original hostess about a friend backing out, she would go and call up other people to get them to have a party in order to get those credits back lol. Or if I had a random party I would put it under that hostess so she would get the credit.
Basically what I am saying is I dont know Tupperwares rules but I think they can do that. But its not a major problem to back out if you are not comfortable with having a party.

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
OMG, I wonder if we are dealing with the same person. I "won" a party in Novemeber...I booked a party in December, invited over 30 people and with the holidays, nobody came...oh well. She pressured me into booking again, so I re-booked for January.....again, right after the holidays. Times are tough and most people I know are not going to spend $50 on a set of bowls before bills. I again cancelled because I had no one to come ( I had 4 people, which I was not cleaning my whole house and prepping food for, my mom and I were included in the 4). Now she is pushing this book party.....keeps emailing me etc. On the phone, makes it like tupperware is gold and she wants me to get this free stuff, blah blah blah. I am 9 months pregnant, seriously your tupperware is the last thing I care about.
I am giving her my moms email and telling her to deal with her and my mom will set her straight. I tried, nobody wanted to come and I don't blame them.

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
It is possible that your friend's free stuff was based on the number of people that booked a party.
But I wouldn't do it. Based on how she's acting toward you, I wouldn't want to host a party for my friends & have her do the same thing for them.
They used to have an option of a catalog party where you can pass a catalog around to see if anyone wants to buy something of your friends, but again she's trying to keep her business going so she'll be harassing them too.

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
OMG I fell for this too & then in turn friends fell for it too (one on this thread...sorry ). I think it probably is this one woman who is involved.
Another friend started selling tupperware under her & ended up stopping after 3 months b/c of the pressure to attend meetings & book parties, etc. (although at the time, she said it's up to you how many parties, etc. you book). Very stronghanded approach all around.
I wouldn't feel pressured to have the party.

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
I hate these parties too. I have gone to one Tupperware, and one Lia Sophia party out of guilt for the hostesses.
And then spent money on crap I didn't need.
I admit I like the jewelry I got from Lia Sophia, however, we figured out at the party that the best way to get a good deal on it is if you host a party and who wants to put your friends and family through that?
It's basically all the same people who are going to get suckered into each party.

Me too! If I want to shop I'll go to the mall or target.... If I want to hang out with me family/friends I'll invite them over for wine & cheese nite or Appetizers and dessert. I hate having to feel pressured to spend $ I don't have on crap. I'm always invited to tons of these parties and I always say I can't come thinking maybe peple will get the hint and not invite me

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
I sold Tupperware for over 2 years. When the games are played so that a guest "wins" a party, they should theoretically be told that in advance. For example, a game can be set up in which you put your hand into a bag and pull out a piece of paper that can either say:
1) You won a specific piece of Tupperware 2) Put this back in and try again 3) You won a party
Before people choose the papers (some consultant rig the games though I never did) the consultant should say "Remember, if you play you could win a party and you have to have the party for 'Jane' to get XYZ". At that point, if you are not interested in having a party in any way shape or form, OPT OUT OF THE GAME! Nobody twists anyone's arm to buy anything or play anything.
What I did learn from selling Tupperware is that no matter how big or small an item is, people will do anything to get anything for free. Even if it is one of those citrus peelers that looks like a crochet needle. People LOVE free stuff.
BTW Tupperware doesn't make its money on parties - they make it on recruiting. Anyone who tells you different is lying.

Do a book party...When I worked Lia Sophia, I had friends do this. You don't have to do anything except say you handed out books and nobody got back to you. I hate it when they pressure you into stuff...

Re: Tupperware Party Pressure? Are they allowed to do this?
You knew that you could win a party and you did it anyway.. she extended the time... honor what you said you'd do and have a party. Esp. if your friend loses out because you can't hold up your end of a bargain.
I went to a tupperware party a few weeks ago and played that game and won a party. She actually booked mine right at that party. But i didn't try to make excuses about not booking because I was told, like you, that I might win a party and have to book it. I probably will only have 2 people come but at least I am not screwing over my friend.
