Re: turbo tax
I use it and I'm in the financal industy. I think it's very through and does as good as a job as many accountants if you are filing a 1040 as a W2 employee. For business owners, I would go to a business accountant because taxes are a bit more complicated then.

Re: turbo tax
Thanks for this post, I was wondering the same thing.
Every year we pay our accountant $250 to prepare our taxes and I feel like we're throwing money out the window. I wanted to try Turbo Tax this yr.

Re: turbo tax
The program really walks you through the whole process and askes tons of questions. From what I remember, you don't get charged for filing until you actually file so if your refund or the amount you owe seems out of line, you can always go to an accountant.
Just to give you an idea of what forms we file:

Re: turbo tax
We used to - now that we go to an accountant we get more back since he is more aware of the deductions we can take.

Re: turbo tax
We used Turbo Tax 2 years ago and it was great. Last year we used an accountant...and paid $250 I think...and all he did was...use Turbo Tax!! We did it at home on our own afterwards and came out with the same return. So we'll be using Turbo Tax this year.
I have a small biz. accountant for my business and taxes are part of his quarterly services.

Re: turbo tax
My husband has been using turbo tax for us for the past couple of years. He uses the one online (instead of first buying the software), so he can log in and work on the taxes from any computer. We have been very happy.
This year they have added an extra feature online -- you can use some of your tax return and get gift cards to participating places like Lowe's, Bed Bath, Gap, Pottery Barn, to name a few, and when you purchase them you get more money back.. For instance, if you get a $25 gift certificate to Bed Bath or other stores, you could get extra bonus $ to add to it...
It only costs $15.99 to do it (for S/H) and you can use whatever you want of your federal refund as long as you e-file...
Something interesting to look into... I know if we decide to work on the house we would definitely do the Lowes one...

Re: turbo tax
We used it this year. Last year I used H&R Block online, but it was more $$$$ this year so I switched to Turbo Tax. FYI...I did the taxes on H&R first and would have gotten less back by their calculations. I don't know why, but I am sticking with Turbo Tax from now on.

Re: turbo tax
LOVED turbo tax last year... but if you have a kid or a house, you should always try a few different sites, (this year we used Taxact.com), and even try h&R's efile. Some sites ask different questions, we got back more this year from Taxact because of two questions taht Turbo tax did not ask.
Although we used it last year because they were able to do both our NY and FL taxes, without getting too hairy and comlicated. Try at least two sites, just to see if there is a difference. Good Luck! (Oh and ours were free to do ourselves!)
