Alton Brown's brined turkey recipe on Food Network. We've been using it for 7 years and it hasn't failed us yet!

Trader Joe's has the best price candied ginger. In like the nuts section. I have gotten it at Meat Farms in the past and even Target. Target is the priciest.

and if you're referring to the Allspice berries, I just use ground.

Re: Turkey brine recipe

I brined my turkey one year with the Alton Brown recipe. I did not think it was worth the effort at all. Those who have done it, how does yours come out? I'm wondering if I did something wrong.

I feel like it wasn't worth the effort either. We've hosted Thanksgiving twice, and everyone liked the turkey better the year I didn't brine it. I'm not going to brine it this year.

Re: Turkey brine recipe

If you get a kosher turkey it's already brined. My mom always gets Empire.

Re: Turkey brine recipe

I honestly didn't taste any flavor from the brine. I think it was a waste of time and effort. We probably wouldn't do it again.

Re: Turkey brine recipe

We used a pre-made brine from William Sanoma. I believe it was Autumn Fruit and Spice or something. We added water and apple cider.

It wasn't too much extra work and I could really taste a difference. The turkey was moist, flavorful and everyone raved. Next year I'll probably buy the same type of brine and just leave it in longer (I timed it poorly and it only sat for about 18 hours, I would have preferred 24).
