Two questions .. gym and organic food.......

Just out of curiosity.. How many of you ladies..........

1- Are going to the gym regularly

2- Switched over to organic fruits and veggies

I haven't been in a regular gym routine in like 2 years! I'll have to wait till the summer when I'm off from work to get back into a routine because my commute is way too long and I get home way too tired to get to the gym!!

As for organic food... the place near me doesn't have a big organic selection Chat Icon I keep meaning to go to Whole Foods... but it would be hard to get there on a regular basis!!

Re: Two questions .. gym and organic food.......

I try to eat healthier in general but do not go too crazy with the whole organic food thing. I do however grow my own organic garden in the summer and will eat the veggies from there as soon as they are ready.

I haven't been to a gym in ages but I chase a two year old around all day which is pretty good exercise. Chat Icon

Re: Two questions .. gym and organic food.......

Probably not a great idea to start an intense gym routine now if you haven't done one in years.
They say you can keep up with the same amount and level of exercise you have done in the past- but don't start anything new or up the intensity.
As for me- I've never gone to a gym in my life and certainly didn't start once I got pregnant.

As for organic foods- if you consider Dorritos and Taco Bell organic, then I'm all about it!

Re: Two questions .. gym and organic food.......

I maintained my normal gym routine from the day I found out I was PG; but I worked out at a high intensity for at least 5 days a week for the past 4-5 years so my doc said it was ok and just pay attention to my body and what it tells me. She also recommended that I lift lighter than I would normally and to not lift heavier than 15lb individual weights.

As for organic foods, I've recently read that its not necessary to go crazy with buying organic, especially if they have a skin that you peel off prior to eating, like bananas. But you can also soak all your fruit in luke warm water for an hour before eating to remove most of the residue that may be located on the fruit from pesticides.

Re: Two questions .. gym and organic food.......

so funny, I was just thinking this. I WAS going to the gym hardcore because we got married last August and I wanted to look good lol. Also meaning, that I didn't eat bad foods then either. Well when I found out I was pregnant I tried going to the gym a few times but my legs felt like cement on the elliptical which scared me a little because I'm a runner so it's not like I wasn't used to the workout and I felt so sick running too so I just canceled my membership.
As for the organic food... I'll say for a month I went organic crazy. I'm a big junk food person but I try to eat it sparingly and I'll basically eat good... like whole wheat toast and egg whites, turkey bacon, etc. I remember when I found out I was pregnant I went to Sherry's in Babylon and stocked up on organic everything... sauce, veggies, pasta, soap, shampoo, etc. But then after seeing how expensive it was and also craving a ton of junk food, that organic thing didn't last. I feel guilty for gaining so much weight and not eating as healthy and organic as possible. I mean have cut out all artificial sugars and won't drink milk with hormones in it but I sure can finish off a thing of ice cream in two days
I don't worry too much about it though. Am I a whale...yes but I have dieting and working out my entire life, esp right before getting pregnant because of the wedding, and now I just need a break from it. Will it be hard losing the weight after the baby... probably but will I regret getting to eat Taco Bell three days in a row or a whole Ben and Jerrys for dinner every once in awhile... NOPE!

Oh, I just meant like walking on the treadmill at an average pace (figure go 2 miles in 25/30 mins Chat Icon ) .. I was also planning to start yoga and telling the instructor I'm pregnant in case there are poses I shouldn't be doing! I figure that's better than nothing.. I feel like such a slob lately Chat Icon

No gym for me but I walk twice a day for 15 minutes and do some yoga at night.

Until we have better regulations on organic food, I won't spend the extra money - I carefully wash everything.

Re: Two questions .. gym and organic food.......

I intended to workout regularly, but I haven't because of m/s. I've always worked out, so I do hope to go back to it soon.

I've also been eating a lot of organic foods for a while, so continue to do so. I don't buy everything organic. I get things like thinned skinned fruits and veggies that are otherwise known to carry a lot of pesticides, dairy, and eggs. Organic meats get expensive, so I don't always go that route, but I try to seek out trustworthy brands that don't add hormones/pesticides, etc (even though those aren't as well regulated as organic food). I know I can't control what I eat when I eat out, but I like to do what I can in my own home. I guess it's like an 80/20 plan.

Re: Two questions .. gym and organic food.......

I was going to the gym 4-5 days a week before and now I've been going 3-4 days a week (I just can't always get there since I'm so nauseous in the mornings). I like to do step class and sometimes weights class, but I have been taking it a little more easy than I used to. On the days I don't do classes, I do about 35 minutes on the elliptical.

As far as organic foods go... I'm definitely not changing my regular habits much. I just make sure things are clean and am trying not to eat too many processed foods, but I'm not really worried about my tomatoes. I'd be more concerned with the nutrients of eating fresh fruits and veggies than whether they are organic or not (plus I tend to find some organic foods spoil way faster, and I'd rather eat inorganic veggies that are not moldy than the opposite).

I went to the gym regularly prior to my pregnancy...even ran a marathon at a few weeks pregnant. So I have continued my regimine just watching my heart rate with everything that I do.

As far as organic, I always have organic milk, and certain fruits and veggies. So I have continued with how I was prior and now I guess I just buy organic whenever it's available.

Re: Two questions .. gym and organic food.......

Ive been a regular gym go-er so I really havent changed my routine. I usually do cardio/weights 2-3 times a week, pilates 1x a week and i recently started pre-natal yoga. My dr. told I could continue my regular routine as long as I felt good.

Ive also tried really hard to buy organic fruit, veggies and meat but sometimes its not always possible.

No gym for me! The High Risk Obgyn said I shouldn't workout. Most Dr's say you can continue any excercise you currently were doing but just don't start anything new.

I never really thought to switch to organic.

I don't work out (running, gym, ect.) because of the fear of early miscarriage (but I do walk a LOT).

I did switch to organic peanut butter, but regular fruits & veggies.

Re: Two questions .. gym and organic food.......

I continue to workout almost every day (30 minutes) though it's been less and less intense as I get bigger.

I try to buy organic for the "dirty dozen" fruits and vegetables that have been all over the media (grapes, blueberries, strawberries, carrots, etc.) The idea of putting all of those pesticides in my body worries me.

I'd also like to add that I eat a TON of junkfood too Chat Icon

I agree with this! I am SO distrusting that whenever I see the organic fruit in the store I tell DH- how do I REALLY know that isn't the same apples as the regular ones- and they are just charging double.
I'm very cynical.

Re: Two questions .. gym and organic food.......

1) I didn't have m/s but I was so tired that the idea of excercise was too much to take. I haven't been running in three months Chat Icon But I take walks with DH and am starting a yoga class next week.

2) I buy a lot of organic food anyway. I live at Whole Foods and Trader Joes. I prefer the way organic fruits and vegetables taste, and like knowing the meat I'm eating or milk I'm drinking isn't pumped full of hormones and chemicals and other nastiness.
