two year old and food
Does your two year old refuse most food now? DS was a great eater and now he doesn't want to eat anything but snacks. Is this a normal 2 year old thing? what do you do about it?
last night he refused to eat dinner and kept asking for snacks, which I didn't give him. I knew he wasn't starving and if he were hungry enough he would have eaten the dinner.

Peyton will be 2 next month and will ANYTHING you put in front of her. Jordan(9 yrs old) has always been a great eater as well. I do think I am very lucky and probably in the minority.
BTW: I have NEVER made either child a seperate meal. We do not do the whole chicken nugget thing. They eat what is served to the family PERIOD.

DS only started this recently. He is almost 2.5 Up until now he was a great eater. I also don't do the chicken nugget thing and he eats what we eat. Although right now he won't eat.

Re: two year old and food
My ped said it was normal. DS has always been an amazing eater. He would eat anything and good quantities for meal.
Now he nearly skips breakfast daily (he used to LOVE breakfast!), has less then usual at lunch. Dinner seems to be our one meal that hasnt really changed.
I told the ped about it and said that I didnt want to make it a power struggle with him so I Dont force him. She said if I tried I would lose.
That at 2 they are trying to control their world more and food si the one thing they really have full control over. She said my job is to prepare the meals for him and make food accessible when he is hungry. Other than that I can't do much more!

I would think it is normal too. I can not imagine having a battle at each meal and worrying if they are eating enough. My one niece was like this for a while but did grow out of it. It did take a while though. Good Luck!

Re: two year old and food
Ryan is now 4 and has been like this since he turned 2. Dinner time is purely frustrating sometimes. He refuses to try anything new and would rather eat nothing sometimes. I hope it ends soon.
Fortunately, my 2 year old DD will eat anything in sight.

Re: two year old and food
My son goes thru stages with eating. There are so many foods he ate when he was 1 - he won't touch now. For awhile we had a limited menu - he has expanded recently but still goes in stages.
