Two weeks notice

Any tips for calming my nerves? I have to give my 2 weeks notice as I am taking a new position elsewhere. I work in the wedding industry and while turnover may be the norm, for my position it is not...in fact, it creates a lot of stress. I'm really worried about the transition for my clients, we just got through a coworker leaving and I was handed over many of her clients that I am now leaving.

I am not interested in a counter offer. I'm burnt out and need a fresh start and the new position will give me MANY advantages.

Should I expect my employer to be mad? What's the best way to let him know and hopefully ride out these next 2 weeks gracefully?

I would just be honest - at the end of the day, it's business.
Don't burn bridges, be as positive as possible about both the current and new positions, while telling them you understand their position, and will do your best to transition your clients over the next 2 weeks.
If you want to lay it on thick, you can thank them for the opprotunities the current position has shown you, all you have learned etc etc.

Re: Two weeks notice

It is so hard but you have to have a thick skin. I know, it is easier said than done! I had this happen a little over a year ago with my employer at the time. It was the curse of the competent. The more I did, the more they put on me. And while I enjoyed my job, I was then offered a much better job, with much better pay, and much better benefits/retirement. When I had to give notice, I gave it and they were bitter. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. Finally, I was like eff this, why am I getting upset? They are trying to make me upset because they know it'll be hard to find someone with my hard work ethic for the crappy pay - especially considering how much work the position demanded. Anyway, I realized that if they could get someone to work for five cents less than me they would do it and screw me over without hesitation. I realized that, for the most part, it is not how it used to be where there was loyalty. So many employers don't care and take advantage. So, why should I be worried and feel bad when they don't do that for me?? And wouldn't, if the roles were reversed. That being said, I just did my two weeks and kept reminding myself of that.

ETA -- and I was as nice and professional as possible. Even offering more than two weeks and to stay and train someone, to be available after I left for the new person to have questions, whatever. And it was like the nicer I was the more they were nasty. So, I just did the best I could and sucked it up. It's a shame, it didn't need to be that way.

Two weeks notice

Take deep breaths and remember why your taking this new position. You have to look out for you and do what is best for you because no one else will.
Business is business, its not like ending a friendship or breaking up with a bf where they will be mad at you.

Like someone else posted, thank them for the opportunities, thank them for everything you learned, let them know you will do everything in your power to ease the transition for your clients. And make sure you tell them the date of your last day. At my job with 2 weeks notice you have to give them written resignation.
And honestly, if they have been good to you, then do everything you can to ease the transition.

I am literally going through the same exact thing!!! Like right down to the industry and they passing over of clients from someone else that left. I could have written this word for word.

I gave my two weeks and the COO said that he wuldnt except it and tried to counter. I told him I'd think about it. However , I came back the next day and told him that this was a great opportunity for me and that I was excited. he bet me $1 I'd be back... jerk!

This - I just left a position I was with for a few years, but I outgrew it. They tried countering with better hours and such but it wasn't worth it. I gave a full months notice because we needed to find, hire, and train my replacement. It was hard and I was shaking, but it's like ripping off a bandaid. They were fine, totally understood, it's business not personal.
