Ugg, my walls are destined to be pictureless. Help me, please!

So, our entire house has plaster walls, which I honestly do not mind since they're in great shape. However, I've been trying to hang curtains and pictures and every, single time I drill into the wall, the section that I am drilling crumbles to piecesChat Icon I've tried everything I can think of: Nails, gripping nails, regular screws, metal anchors, plastic anchors. I managed to hang my curtains in my diningroom, but not before I made the top of the windows look like swiss cheese. Now I have all these pictures I want to hang on the walls and I don't know what to do. Can anyone suggest something???? PLEASE?!?!! TIA!

have you tried those hooks they sell at BB&B or any hardware store should have them. Just make sure you check to see the weight they hold up to on the package. ACtually michaels and ac moore have them as well.

We have used the drywall hooks all over our house for hanging pictures & I love them. I think they can hold pictures upto 50 lbs. I got mine from qvc but I have seen something similar in Kohls. Hooks

I used the stick 3M picture hooks to hang up pictures in the plaster walls in my apartment. It was the only thing that worked. Just make sure you prep the walls with rubbing alcohol so the taps sticks well.

I only got my curtains up by hanging them on the wood framing around the windows.

My mom's house has plaster walls and she puts a piece of scotch tape over where she's going to put the nail or drill and then it doesn't crumble. HTH! Chat Icon

We have plaster walls here too and a really old house. We use the scotch tape as well to try to prevent cracking but we don't drill much. to hang pictures we just hammer a nail w/o any problems. As for curtains we drilled into the window frame so it was wood not plaster so we didn't have any crumbling here at all Chat Icon

I'm not an expert but maybe you could use a "stud finder" (ha ha) - this way you could nail into the studs and not the soft part of the wall...Chat Icon

I never heard of the scotch tape trick, I'll have to try it! As for nailing into the walls, I did try the picture hooks, but the nails slide in and out so easily and it makes me uncomfortable to hang things on them with Ava runnning around. We'll see. I guess I'll have to just put a little faith into the hooks. I didn't even think to hang my curtains from the window frame. Duh. I'll do that in my livingroom since we don't have curtains in there yet. Thanks everyoneChat Icon

I agree wtih both posters. The tape works as does just using a hammer and a nail. We have large paintings and we just hammered in nails (for the large pieces, we hammered the nails into the hooks, but it's the same idea)
