take it as a form of flattery....they must think you are pretty great if they are trying soo hard to impress you.
think about it, do you rub your good fortune in the face of people who have less than you? nope! but the people who have more, you want to impress or show off to (not you, but people in general)....
This is a good way of looking at it.
People like this drive me NUTS (like my neighbor who is always rubbing his son's PERFECT lifestyle in my DHs face) but this is new way of looking at it...interesting.
i want to add....if you are surounded by people who have less than you, dont you almost "hide" your good fortune ? i do....not like i am soooo fortunate, but if i am around certain people i definitely dont flash what i have if they dont have it. so thats why i think that way. and it helps me around people that are show offs.

I usually find the people that talk about having the best of everything have just the opposite.
I agree...there are a few people I know who are like this but when you get right down to it...NOTHING is perfect in their lives. It's sad. Seems like if they say it out loud then maybe it'll come true...although so far I see no luck with that for them.
I like the imperfections in my life...they make it interesting and real.

YES!! Especially lately...I feel so utterly blessed and don't share with a lot of people because I know it would hurt them. Esp. fam. in NY struggling to buy a house... for great things for all those deserving!

I have a friend like that.. goes on and on about how perfect her life is.. i know that it isn't which makes me laugh inside. i just let her think what she wants to think though. NO ONE has a perfect life!
THIS IS SO TRUE!!
How people portray themselves isn't always how they are.
My BF for example...super unhappy with her entire life (as a woman, wife, mom) yet she goes on every day buyingnew things and pretending. Fix what's wrong with you!! Life is too damn short!!
uh-oh...
when i am in a bad mood or feel like life is sh!t, i definitely go shopping....but it does make me feel better!!!
No Mel, she has major debt, is a SAHM, no income other than DH's, no house, no savings. She has a shopping addiction...and buying things (electronics, designer Italian clothes for the babies, she always has the latest bag, shoes, clothes, etc....but she doesn't work!! where is she going to wear the "gauchos" to? )
Again, if they had the money, this would be OK...if they had a house or savings or something...but she has nothing...just CC debt. And is sooooo unhappy...please fix your life!!
SEE, that is SAD. I personally think the majority of SAHM's can NOT afford to stay home but want to look like they are the "good" mom and care more about their kids. They also want to keep up with fashion too so they max out all their cards and there is their poor dh's working 2 and 3 jobs to keep their heads above water while they are benefiting. God forbid something happens to their dh's, what would they financially do??

I agree- it's really sad- but she needs to come back to reality

I am the same way. Not that I have money but there are certain things that have my parents have done for my sister and I over the years that I don't tell people because they have parents who can't afford to help them in life.
