ugh - flu and newborn
DD was born last monday (1/21) and yesterday, we found out that FIL has the flu he held her for hours the day she was born and one other day since
i had the flu vaccine while pregnant but what are the odds she will get sick? how long is incubation period? are people with the flu able to pass it along before they show signs/symptoms?

Re: ugh - flu and newborn
First off -
Second, I will share MY experience. DD had the flu vaccine in oct (we all did). My Dh's stepfather watched the baby last saturday night. He began feeling sick on Sunday (allegedly). It was confirmed flu on Monday. DD was confirmed flu on Tuesday (she began showing signs on Monday night).
I hope your beautiful little girl doesn't get sick!!

Re: ugh - flu and newborn
I read the people are only contagious starting the day before they get symptoms and then 7 days after.

Re: ugh - flu and newborn
Symptoms should appear between 1-4 days after being exposed. My brother came down with it last Friday and DS was with him all day and so far, nothing. Just keep an eye out with her..

Re: ugh - flu and newborn
I delievered on a Monday. My dh seemed a bit 'off'. On Wednesday the doctor confirmed he had the flu. I (and our newborn) were with him all day monday (i had an emergency c-section and he was even in the or with me) and all day tuesday. My peditrician gave us the go ahead to return home on friday. I had the flu shot, she said to wash hands as much as possible and breastfeed as much as possible. We limited his exposure to the baby (he also never returned to the hospital). My newborn never got the flu.
Hopefully your dd will be okay!
