Re: UGH Flex plan!! HELP

THIS year you can stock up on tylenol, first aid kits, bacitarcin, advil....stock up on ALL your over the counter medical stuff.

ANYTHING (almost) medical over the counter. See if sunscreen is on list and stock up for the summer.

Get new glasses frames/glasses
Order new contacts
go see the chiropracter
Go to the dentist for an extra cleaning.

Are tampons on the list?

Get ANY prescription filled that you can.

stock up on aspirin, cold medicine, vitamins, etc.
if you need contacts or glasses buy them now.
any other dr's you have not been for, try and go to use if on co-pays

DITTO!

Some may flame me but I don't care..

Go to CVS and buy whatever you can..

then return it all and use the money for what you do need.

I don't know if all Flex plans are the same. But I was told by my HR dept that it's no longer allowed.

its no longer as of JANUARY 1, 2011 thats when the IRS law takes effect

Actually, this is a common misconception of the new regulations.

As of 1/1/11, you can still get over the counter items like bandages, contact lens liquid, etc. For over the counter MEDICINES (claritin, advil, tylenol, etc), you will now need a doctor's prescription in order to receive reimbursement, but they will still be eligible for reimbursement with flex.

can you send me a link to where you got that info, because according to IRS.gov thyats not true

IRS 2011 Flex Spend Changes

"Effective Jan. 1, 2011, the cost of an over-the-counter medicine or drug cannot be reimbursed from Flexible Spending Arrangements or health reimbursement arrangements unless a prescription is obtained."

right-that's what I have. I now re-read LoveyQ's post and I thought she said you could still get it I missed the part about getting a prescription because that's what I had read on the site, only with a prescription. Dr's are going to be so overwhelmed with requests for prescriptions ofr bandaids.. I just don't see why the IRS would even do this

if you buy big ticket items from target and use your debit or credit card, you can send your original reciept into the plan and return whatever you bought with their reciept lookup system. This is 100% fraud to avaid taxes even though its your $$, you will be recieving it back tax free but its your decision to get your $ or lose it.

In my understanding the script is necessary for medication ONLY. They would need to give a script if you want Claritin - not a box of bandaids.

Re: UGH Flex plan!! HELP

drugstore.com has a FSA approved store online with lots of items you can buy..lotions, over the counter stuff.

I dont think they've changed the law yet on using it for OTC stuff

http://www.drugstore.com/fsa-store/qxg59875-0

see what you can use it on there.

do you have any prescription refills you need? get them now.
