Ugh!! Help! DS sounds like the "Sounds Of Pertussis" commercial.
DS is just about 3 and has had every one of his DTap vaccines.
This current cold that he's on, his coughs sound just like the little coughing baby on that crazy commercial. "cough,cough,cough,*GASP* cough,cough,cough"
Can a child who's been vaccinated against whooping cough still get it? Even after all of the doses that he's been given?
He sounds awful. He's got a cool mist humidifier, put him in the bathroom and ran the shower hot for steam, and took him out tonight in the cold, crisp air. Nothing helps the cough.. Yet he seems to be not bothered by it..
Of course this happens on the weekend when the ped office is closed..

When DD had RSV her cough sounded very much like whooping cough. So much so that when we walked into the peds office they were convinced she had pertussis.

DD#1 was diagnosed with whooping cough last year. She was vaccinated, but I was told they now need a booster around the age of 10(which she is) Not sure if her age made her more at risk? It is terrible and lasts about 3 months but it really only dangerous to infants and the elderly according to my Dr.

Yes my niece got it at age 4 and was fully vaccinated. If he sounds that bad, I'd take him to PM Pediatrics. I will say though my SIL said my niece more than sounded bad... she was like violently coughing, like thrashing, vomiting, etc.

My son's cough from his last bout of bronchitis sounded just like that cough on that commercial. It scared the hell out of me. But it was just bronchitis and they gave him a nebulizer with steroids to take for a week and he was back to normal. I'd definitely get to the ped., but I wouldn't go crazy with worry
