Ugh.. I really don't like the NP at my Drs. office!

So, they changed the prenatal I'm taking for some reason, and now I'm taking along with my Vitafol, Vitafol with an extra tablet that's DHA. Well, having never taken DHA, I started it two days ago, and I swear I'm having an allergic reaction to it. No hives/rashes or anything, but I can barely see because my eyes are burning and teary like crazy. This started after I started taking the DHA tablet. So I call the nurses line and tell the nurse this and she tells me it's just a coincidence. I tell her I don't think so because I've never suffered from allergies before and this literally started after taking the DHA. She keeps going on and telling me that this is what I've been taking all along. Again I tell her it's not and she just keeps fighting me.

I've had issues with this nurse before, I just don't like her and she's the only one who answers the nurses line there. Chat Icon

She told me to stop taking the DHA for a few days and see how I feel, but she's sure I won't feel any different, and that this is just my allergies acting up. Chat Icon

I would do my own experiment and not take the DHA for a few days-- then see what happens.

Come to think of it-- I have been taking fish oil, aka DHA since January-- and when I wake up, my eyes are pretty watery. BUT, I do also now have to sleep with a fan on me, in addition to either the AC and the window cause I get so damn hot when I sleep.

Can you request that a Dr. call you back?

Have you researched reactions to your new prescription online? Are they consistent with what you're feeling?

I had a similar issue with the NP at my practice. I had severe stomach aches for a week straight. Not cramps, but a stomach ache. I called, and the NP told me to go see my general physician because it was probably just my IBS acting up and "not pregnancy related".

I went to my regular Dr. and she was furious that they sent me to her. She called my OB's office and I think the NP got in big trouble.

I couldn't really find anything online. I may call my sister later and ask her (she's a Dr.) The nurse did say if I had an allergy to shell fish that it's possible I'm having a reaction. However, I wouldn't know since I don't eat shell fish or any fish for that matter.

All I know is that I'm miserable today and now my right eye is bright red and completely bloodshot.

I am going to stop taking the DHA capsule and see what happens.

can you try a benadryl? If it's an allergic reaction - that should help! (in addition to NOT taking the pill itself)..
