Ugh. I was afraid of this..what do I do? uPDATED 1st post
When I bought my car, it was under ym dad's name because I was only 18.
I put in a claim to my extended warranty company so they are going to send me a checque for $411. The only problem is that his name is the only one on the account. They can't send it to me without his permission.
Do I
1) Have them send the check and forge his signature
2) Have the send the check and send it to him to try to get him to endorse it
3) email my dad and ask him to call the number and add me and authorze them to send the checque to me (what I'm afraid of here is that he'll call and give them his adress and take my $400).
4) Consider myself out of $400
5) other
Update: Thanks for all of the advice. I just heard back from my dad and he is going to do it. It involves some paperowrk and he said he is going to send it to me to transfer the contract to my name and to transfer the car to my name. I am really surprised! He was really nice in his email, but it makes me sick. I'm not sure this was worth $400

Re: Ugh. I was afraid of this..what do I do?
I say sign his name to the check
I signed my Dad's on a DVM refund- and desposited it no problem (he told me to keep for waiting on line for him)

Either forge it or give Pops a call.
Don't let go of 400 dollars

Call (so he can't deny getting an E-mail) your Dad, tell him the check is coming and you expect him to endorse it and send it back to you...all the while considering yourself out $400.

As this is ILLEGAL without permission, is there any way this could come back to me?

That is the equivalent of writing him a check for $400, since it money I paid out. I'd rather the warranty company keep it.
Another option is to get my mom's lawyer involved, but that would probably cost more than $400.

I would sign his name. You're not signing his name with intent to defraud him or the warranty company. I doubt that anything legal will happen to you.

Re: Ugh. I was afraid of this..what do I do?
i can't believe people are telling you to forge his name to a CHECK
that's not like forging his signature to a post-it note - it's a CHECK - you could get in alot of trouble if you get caught
and yes, it could come back to you
if he somehow finds out he can report you
and he sounds like the type that would do it
I say you have to tell him and take your chances

If you are depositing it to your account or cashing it against your account, I would imagine yes. Do you really want to take that chance for $400? It would be considered check fraud.
If you cashed it at a check cashing place (where they will take a percentage) maybe not. But I'm not sure they'll cash a check that's not made out to you.

If I sing his name, do I think sign my name and deposit it into my account? how does it work?
I am so ****** at the dealership. the warranty company said that they offered to pay the dealership directly by credit card, but the dealership refused. WHY WHY WHY?
ETA: There's no way he would ever find out if I did just sign his name to it, but I don't think I want to take that chance

He has an account at the same back as mine, but I can forge his signature pretty well, but I don't think I would actually do this. I just wish I could because then I won't have to deal with him.

Is there anyway the warranty company can issue the check to the company who fixed it and then the company who fixed it can reimburse you.

if "he" endorsed it over to me, I could deposit it. OR, I have access to a joint checking account he had with my mom when they were married but is no longer used. I could deposit it into there at the ATM, then take it out.
but I just don't want to do that.
I think the people who are sayind "yeah forge it" are people who probably think my dad would never sink so low as to press charges against his own daughter. He would.
Which is why I don't really want him to call the warranty comapny or send him the check either, because he could just have them send it to him and keep the money.

I agree.
Please send him an email - you don't want to take any chances with him trying to do something about if hears of this.

don't think I can do that on gmail.
I don't even have his email address, but I am trying to get it. I think my mom has his work # somewhere, but I just can't call him. I really don't want to talk to him. My last conversation with him was last easter at 1am and I told him he's not my father, he's dead to me and that I hope he gets gorhhea from his 14 year old putana.
I had called him to tell him off for bringing his girlfriend to the easter vigil at my church.
He kept saying "Listen to me. I am your father" hahahahaha that's so funny.
Oh, also my car is registered in his nbame, I had to go online and pretrend to be him to register it because he wouldn't sign it over to me, even though when he left it wa about to be repossessed and I paid it off and I have paid for all of the maintenance and repairs. I should have just dropped it on his doorstep and used all that money as a downpayment on a new car

If they have a joint account maybe your mom can talk to her lawyer and ask if she can deposit it, by writing For Deposit on the back instead of endorsing it.

It just sucks because $400 is a LOT to me right now. I barely scraped the money to get the car fixed in the first place, and $400 would buy much needed work clothes, or go toward fixing my laptop. I only have $400 right now, so that money would double my checking account balance

I have deposited other people's checks. I endorsed their name and then signed my name with my acct number. You can really do this.
