A heartbreaking story in Brooklyn where police say a mother has confessed to beating her 11-year old daughter to death.
The mother, Florenzia Vazquez is being held at the 75th precinct. Police say the suspect confessed to beating her daughter with a mop handle so hard, it broke in two.
The incident allegedly took place on Thursday, but it was not until Sunday where a man renting a room in the apartment saw the girl, and called police.
Police say 11-year-old Alejandra arrived from Mexico last month to live with her mother. She had reportedly told friends that she had been beaten.
Neighbor Nancy Irizarry says she wishes she heard or saw anything at the three-story apartment building on Atlantic Avenue, anything that would indicate that the little girl who always sat on the stoop was in trouble.
"I am overwhelmed," Irizarry said. "I can't believe this is happening in our neighborhood. They were just a normal family. She was cheery, mother was cheery."
Alejandra had a 14-year-old sister who was removed from the home last January due to abuse allegations. Both children Vasquez had with her ex-husband.
The victim reportedly told police she hated everything associated with her father. Three other children in the home ages 3, 6, and one were also removed. Vasquez's boyfriend lives in the apartment, and is not expected to be charged with the mother, but he could face other charges.
The official cause of death is expected to be released later Monday.
Vasquez is expected to be charged with the death of her daughter Monday.

wow this is right near where i work, dh and i were driving on atlantic ave yesterday and saw the police, news vans, and crowd of people and were wondering what happened,
that poor child may she rest in peace and thankfully the other children have now been removed i hope the mother does not get them back

What a sick b!tch!!!! I hate reading stores about this, makes me sick that there are people out that that do these things to there children, HORRIBLE!!!! They should be shot!

this is sickening...
the older sister was also abused and removed from the home but the younger ones weren't?
why didn't the social workers come back and take the younger ones away? what's wrong with the system that allows an abusive mom to continue this behavior?

OMG i heard about this last night & caught some of the story on the news this morning... i worked in a foster care agency as a social worker and i HATE when i hear stories like this

Did I read the article right? The 14 year old was removed from the home LAST January due to allegations of abuse........but the small children stayed? Along with the 11 year old who recently came from Mexico?
