UGHH Mean Doctor

I feel like all the doctors I've been dealing with have been AWFUL, including my ob who did my d&c last year. It's just one thing after another.

Today is Day 3 of a new cycle after my first IUI cycle didn't work. The doctor said "so do you want to do the same thing as last month?" and I was like "well it didn't work so..." and she interrupted me and went off on a rant about how clomid + IUI is only a 10% chance I could get pregnant (which I didn't think was true - I thought it was higher?).

I was completely taken aback. I was going to finish my sentence by saying "...so I was wondering if you would suggest doing something different?"

I was so shaken that I couldn't even ask my question until the end, when she was rushing to get out of the room. I asked her about giving me supplemental progesterone (bc mine was 6.99 1 week after IUI) and she was like "we don't usually give suppositories, but we can if you want. but there's no guarantee that it will end up in your blood" and like smirked and ran out of the room.

She was really mean, right?? i'm not just being oversensitive bc of AF?

Re: UGHH Mean Doctor

Sounds like a real piece of work.

You have to be confident with your dr. Also have to feel comfortable asking questions and having them answered!
Is there another dr in the practice you can see or would u be willing to change RE's all together?

Are you at north shore by any chance?

Yes - stats for iui are very low. It took me 7.
6.99 is too low of a prog - you def need suppositories or pio.

I'm at Columbia in the city and I see a different doctor every time I go. Usually they are pleasant, if a bit rushed but today was something else!

I feel totally discouraged from even going back bc I just don't want to deal with the tude. Chat Icon

It's set off my entire day on the wrong foot!

Re: UGHH Mean Doctor

No your def not being oversensitive thats just completely unacceptable. This journey is emotional enough you need someone who you feel confident and comfortable with, and that whole progesterone thing just doesn't make any sense. If I were you I'd definitely start researching other RE's. Sorry you had to deal with that Chat Icon

Unfortunately this is what comes with practices that have several doctors. I had the same issue at RMA and I got annoyed that I got different stories from different doctors at monitoring appointments. Hopefully it was just her having a bad day, otherwise, you might want to look into a smaller practice with a 1:1 feel. Good Luck!

I would change doctors and practices. I went to RMA in the city and I had a different dr for monitoring in the morning, BUT my dr was always the one to discuss protocol with me and gave me all the time in the world on the phone, email or in person. He was my favorite in the practice.

At Columbia you have a set Dr but they discuss all protocols in a daily meeting. So even if you see your Dr they bounce your case off the entire group. To me that is one of the best ways to do it as you are getting a ton of opinions.

If this was the only time you felt uncomfortable there I would stick it out but if it was an every time issue then I would leave.

Sorry your had this experience because I had the complete opposite.

RMA actually runs like this, too. It's a cooperative (like Private Practice, if you watched that tv show). You have 1 main dr but they all discuss the cases to make the best decision possible for each patient. They also listen to patient input, as well.

To the OP, Clomid + IUI is about a 10% of working, depending on a number of factors (the number of follies you have, your age, sperm, etc). It could be lower than 10%, but it never really gets significantly higher than that. IUIs give you a better chance than just TTC on your own, and it should work, assuming there are no other major factors in place. But there is no guarantee that it works the first time. It may take 2 or 3 tries.

As for the progesterone supps, my RE would have definitely put you on supps if you were only at a 7 7dpiui. However, it also points towards weak O, so they would probably also change your protocol. What she was referring to about the supps not hitting your blood, this is true for suppositiories. PIO would hit your blood. Either way, you should have been on a supplement.

When your RE asked about what you wanted to do this month, she probably wanted your input. After I had 2 failed Clomid IUIs, my RE asked if I wanted to try again and I asked to move onto injectables. Perhaps she was asking where your comfort level was?

Regardless of any of this, if you are not comfortable with your RE, by all means try another practice.

As I said, RMA operates as a cooperative, as well, but I loved that practice. We will be returning there when we TTC for #2.

It's def the only time I felt uncomfortable. I was actually taken aback, I was so shocked by her reaction! Everyone there is so nice/pleasant, it was really weird to have that experience.

Thanks so much for the info - I guess I didn't realize it was only 10% success rate. Chat Icon

I want to ask the next doctor I see about the progesterone, because her response seemed really weird and inconsistent to what everyone else is saying on here. I can't believe they as a practice don't give supplemental progesterone.

I like the cooperative aspect, and I have no issues with any of the other doctors. I guess she was really having a bad morning! Chat Icon

I would change drs! You want someone who is going to be patient, answer all your questions and explain things when needed. Otherwise the stress of dealing with the dr is going to drive you crazy every day of your cycle!

that's awful, it's bad enough we have to deal with IF issues, but dealing with an insensitive doctor can be horrible. I would switch. Chat Icon
