ughh separation anxiety with mommy only
DD will be 9 months on the 22nd and just is having really bad separation anxiety with me leaving her in the room with anyone else. Any advice would help. She even does this with DH and he is very upset about it. I explained to him it is only a stage but he is very discouraged. Please let me know how you deal. My mom watches her during the day M-F and she seems ok with her but with anyone else she cries if she doesn't see me. TIA!
update: last tuesday she cried histerically with the babysitter who normally watches her and has been watching her for a while now. My mom couldnt leave to go do what she needed to. This past Sat. we went to a wedding and my MIL watched her and she cried for 2 hours. I had to go home and put her to bed and then go back to the wedding. My birthday is Wed, and my DH is having a party I dont want this to happen again :(.

Re: ughh separation anxiety with mommy only
Sorry to jump in as a non-parent, but my nephew went through the exact same thing when he was 9 months. It lasted until he was about 13 months. It was like a light switch. One day he would cry hysterically for my brother or SIL, the next he was fine when left with someone else. There wasn't really anything different that we did.
I work with really young children and I see it a lot. Eventually most of them outgrow it.
For me, distraction worked really well. Favorite toys/movies/something novel like bubbles to help take her mind off of it may help.
Sorry that you're going through this right now!

Re: ughh separation anxiety with mommy only
I am going through this with DS too. He cries when I leave the room and is now walking and is CONSTANTLY underfoot. I mentioned this to the dr. yesterday and he just said make sure you don't "sneak out" when you leave and make sure to say goodbye. If you are in another room, to try to talk to them. They need to learn that you will eventually come back.

Re: ughh separation anxiety with mommy only
Thanks ladies, I have been doing research online too and it says the same thing about saying goodbye and talking throught the different rooms. So we ended up having 2 babysitters on my bday. One that hasnt watched her before and one that has. The night was a mess. My mom ended up staying with her until she went to bed so she missed the first part of my party. I felt really bad. Hopefully she grows out of this soon!! Any other advise would def. help! TIA!
