under-active thyroid?

Hi my DH and I are not yet ready to TTC but due to my irregular periods I went and got some testing and bloodwork done. My results came back that I have an under-active thyroid and that this may be the reason for my irregular periods. Has anyone dealt with this? and if so was it treatable...I am nervous that this will greatly affect my chances of ever being able to conceive.

Re: under-active thyroid?

I'm dealing with the same issue right now. I have extremely irregular cycles and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in late October. I'm on 50mcg of synthroid a day now. I only started taking it on November 1st, so I have to go back to check my levels in the begining of December. It's pretty treatable from what I'm told.

Since I haven't been on the meds long, my cycles are still out there. I'm CD37 today. I asked a question about it the other day. Here's the

ETA: Another question I had asked about it.

sorry i cannot really help but just wanted to say that i think it is good you are aware of the potential problem. we just found out that my DH actually has this. he is now being treated too. i am wondering myself if this could be the cause as to why we have not conceived yet (only going on month 4, but who knows?)
i am hoping his medication will help!
good luck with everything!!Chat Icon

Re: under-active thyroid?

I have had an underactive thyroid for years- been taking different doses of synthroid to get it under control. Once your levels are fine you should have NO problem TTC. I just got my BFP last friday!! I called my endocrinologist and he is having me get blood taken in 3 weeks and will probably have to adjust the dose- but there is NO problem taking synthroid while pregnant. HTH!!

Re: under-active thyroid?

This runs in my family and I was tested 2.5 yrs ago and was put on Synthroid......It did not regulate me, but it helped in many other ways. I had more energy, my skin wasn not as dry and I felt better over all along with less colds and bronchitis. Now that I am pg I have my levels monitored monthly and they are a bit off right now but they will not adjust until I am 12-13wks so they can figure out the best dosage for me and Skittle. TRUST ME you will feel better with it. Also I was tested at a yearly pgysical this was way before we were TTC.. HTHChat Icon
