Up until the trip to the emergency room, the day was awesome!!!
So, we decided to still go to the beach even though the weather was iffy. We went to Crab Meadow, Cailen napped in the stroller there, and after he woke up he had a blast. He played in the sand, in the shallow end of the water... He was in heaven...
We decided to bring him to the playground. He ran around. A few times we took him down on the slide on our lap. DH said we should get going, and took Cailen one last time on the slide. When they landed on the bottom Cailen was screaming! This kid rarely cries when he hurts himself, and he could not calm down. DH thinks his shoe got caught as they were sliding down. Eventually he stopped as I carried him. When we got back to our blanket, I put him down and his leg crumpled under him and he started crying again. For the next hour, he could not walk or crawl - he tried, but would crumple and cry.
So, we came home, bathed and changed him, and went to the emergency room where we spent almost 3 hours. I felt so bad about having to do this on father's day. Cailen was an angel the entire time!
He had xrays, and they came out ok, so the doctor said it was a sprain and wrapped his fat little ankle in a tiny ace bandage 
Poor baby was out cold as soon as got back in the car....
I am  that he will be able to walk tomorrow - now I have to see if a pair of Robeez will fit over the bandage.
Anyone have experience with sprains? He ha to take motrin - do you think he will be able to walk tomorrow?

Aww poor kid!! Hope he feels better tomorrow, but since it's sprained, I don't think he'll be able to walk on it for a bit.

How long is "a bit?"
I'm not sure, but I remember girls in my HS cheerleading squad with sprained ankles and being on crutches for weeks. Babies might heal faster though? I would call the doctor tomorrow and ask them how long it normally takes to heal. Hopefully very soon!!!

The Dr. said sprain not strain, right?
A sprain is an injury to a ligament. Strain is an injury to a muscle/tendon (easier to heal).
The "treatment" is usually RICE for both.
Rest
Ice (not sure if recommended at his age)
Compression (the bandage he did)
Elevation (in case for DS, rest AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE).
I doubt he will walk tomorrow and you should avoid it.
Poor little guy!!!

I would not rule out daycare. He just cannot jump around and most likely will not be able to. They will need to occupy him in a different way.

I would elevate it tonight if you can, but would still bring him into daycare. Explain what happened & that he should not be allowed to walk on it.
Hope he's better soon.

Elevation is impossible - he is on his belly.... Poor baby - when I checked on him when he was crying, he sensed me, tried to get up and crumpled again....
I am doing a shorter day tomorrow - I could get him early.... this is so heart breaking....
