Update: Another growth sono at 38 weeks
Hi all, Today I had a second growth sono at 37w 5 days after my first at c. 34 weeks showed I was measuring large. The baby has been measuring large since a sono I had at 28 weeks showed her a week ahead. I know the growth sonos are so frequently incorrect, but since I have them done at LIJ with the drs at Katz and not my dr, I feel like they are giving me some anxiety. The dr. today said she is going to recommend to my dr that I take another glucose test. They keep asking if I passed the diabetes test I had 10 weeks ago! It was a 2 hr test, and I passed! It almost makes me feel like I'm doing something wrong here, but then they say "maybe it's just a big baby".
Her measurements are all proportionate, so that seems to be the important thing. I'm just also getting anxious about her gaining more weight - she's about 8lbs 4 oz as of today's estimate.
They made me make an appointment for a 3rd growth sono in 3 weeks! GOD help me if I'm still pregnant in 3 weeks!
Sorry this is so long, but just needed to vent. Anyone have experience with this anxiety and how did your situation turn out? I'm kind of wishing my dr. would schedule an induction or C-section as soon as she's able, if I don't go before then. But dear Lord, please don't put me through another growth sono at 40+ weeks!!
UPDATE: So, I repeated the glucose test last week, they made me do a 3 hour test this time and I passed again, with flying colors.
I have my next growth sono on Monday and then another dr appt after that. I don't know what I want at this point. Sick of everyone making me feel like I have something to worry about and I know I'm going to be faced with a decision about a c-section if she's still so big (allegedly). I didn't want a C, but I also have never done this before and don't know what to expect otherwise with a big baby. That's just my update for now.

Another growth sono at 38 weeks
Sorry to hear this! I've never been in this position, but based on my growth sono that I did around 32 weeks, the numbers were putting DD ahead as well. Of course, this was just based on me looking at the numbers on the screen. My OB/GYN didn't mention anything and at my follow-up appointment when I asked about the results she said that everything was fine. When is your next appointment with your OB? Since you're almost 38 weeks, you must be going weekly. I would voice my concerns to them and ask their recommendation on how to proceed. Be your own advocate!

Thanks, yes, I see my Dr. tomorrow. I will definitely see what she says. DH says that I'm the only one concerned about her size, that everyone else is saying she looks good!

Another growth sono at 38 weeks
I had weekly growth Sonos after a certain point bc I had GD and DD always measured ahead. At my 37w4d appt, baby measured over 8lbs. I went for an induction due to low fluid exactly a week later and DD was born at 39w exactly and measured 7lb5oz. Mine was clearly very wrong and yours could be right for all you know but If your doctor isn't concerned, I wouldn't be either.

Thank you! Should I be nervous that I have undiagnosed GD? My dr does a 2 hour test and I passed. Of course I have to see what my dr recommends, but how could I have GD all this time and go unnoticed?

If I wasn't diagnosed, I never would have known I had it (although i maintain I was wrongly diagnosed). I'd see what your doctor thinks. Some people just have big babies.

Re: Another growth sono at 38 weeks
What is the likelihood for it to be undiagnosed though? I never hear of that happening! And I took the 2 hour test, not just the 1 hour. And at this point in my pregnancy, what can I really do about it?

Maybe you weren't undiagnosed and if you have it, it just developed later? They're pretty accurate though from what I understand. I think I was misdiagnosed bc I was very sick at the time and from what I read, that can raise your blood sugar levels.

I didn't think of it that way!
Any idea what I would do now, at this point, if I do have it?

You can try to follow the GD diet- high protein, low carb.

I wouldn't think it went "undiagnosed", but as previous poster said, perhaps your blood sugar levels changed as your pregnancy progressed. It happens often. I failed my 1 hour at 28 weeks, passed my 3 hour at 29 weeks, but doctor made me take another 3 hour test at 35 weeks to verify no change as the due date approached. If you are worried, you can as above poster said follow the GD diet which will help keep everything in control for these last few weeks, but definitely speak with doctor. Who knows -- they may send you for another GD test?

Re: Another growth sono at 38 weeks
At my 30 week appt with my first, I was told my baby was measuring large. At 37w4d I had another sono showing the baby at 8lb4oz. I was induced at 38w1d and the baby was born 8lb1oz. My dr didn't have concern about GD. I was just on par for a big baby. My growth sono was pretty close but I know many peoples are very off so it's a tough call.

Re: Another growth sono at 38 weeks
My DS measured 7 1/2lbs at my 35 weeks sonogram! They didn't do any subsequent growth sonos or give me another GD test but when my DS was born weighing 10lb9oz I was constantly made to feel like I must have had undiagnosed GD while I was in the hospital and it made me feel like I was somehow at fault. Granted my PP hormones were in full swing but it is still brings back awful memories to this day.
My current oBGYN is making me take the GD test at 24, 28 and 32 weeks. He said it could be that I developed GD later on with DS or it could just be that I make big babies. Both DH and I weighed 9 1/2lbs at birth so that is definitely a possibility too!

Re: Another growth sono at 38 weeks
You can't do much about it at this point, but if your baby is born large or if you do another glucose test and you do have it, your baby's sugars will be tested a bunch of times in te first 24hrs.
My baby measured 8lbs 15oz at 38 weeks. I was induced at 39.3 and ended up with a 9lbs 11oz baby. No gestational diabetes and ds sugars were perfect. Oh and he was delivered vaginally. So I just have big babies! It happens, I wouldn't worry about it! If they really think it's going to be large ask for an induction after 39 weeks.

Re: Another growth sono at 38 weeks
DS 1 measured big all along. Growth sono at 35 weeks had everyone swearing/promising me that he was going to be in excess of 10 lbs. They also swore I'd never make it to my due date, and that I'd have to be a c-section.
DS was born at 8lbs 8oz, vaginally due to cervadil induction three days after my due date.
They try their best - but their measurements aren't exact.
Good luck! The speculation will all be over soon enough!!
