***UPDATE I WENT MY PCP*** Question for those who have taken Zoloft
Here is my post from last week - Who to talk to about PPD
****UPDATE - I WENT TO MY PCP**** I just kept feeling off all day. It ranged from heart racing to a loopy blob on the couch. I called my OB, no drs or nurses were in, and I didn't want him paged b/c I didn't think it was warranted. I finally decided to goto my PCP b/c I was afraid to just stop the meds. I am SO thankful I went!! Come to find out my OB wrote the script for 50mg, so last night I took 2, totaling 100mg. My PCP was shocked, and said I should have started w/ 25mg. I was having a reaction to a Seratonin overload! He asked a couple questions which triggered my memory- in my blookwork done when I was PG, my OB suggested having my thyroid checked after delivery. The PCP asked a few more questions & felt my neck. He said my thyroid is slightly enlarged & I need more bloodwork done, which I'll be doing tomorrow AM. He said to NOT take anymore Zoloft. I did tell him I didn't feel like I needed to be medicated for how I'm feeling, but more like I need someone to talk to.
Thank you ALL for responding to my post!!!! Its such a relief knowing I wasn't (and still not) alone! <3
I went to my OB on wednesday - told him the best was i could what was going on. he said i have postpartum blues and prescribed Zoloft. I was not too keen on taking something, but I'll try it out.
Last night was my first night of taking it and I'm not so sure - - I woke up around 3am with stomach pains. I went to get out out bed and felt dizzy. I felt jittery and shakey. I also felt like inside of my chest was hot. I also had horrible nausea and diarrhea (sorry).
Is this normal?!?!? If so, how long will this last?!?!
I stayed home from work today b/c I got NO sleep after that and my stomach has been a wreck.
Also- I'm afraid of when it comes time to ween off. How could it effect me??

Re: Question for those who have taken Zoloft
Not EXACTLY the same reason for going on it, however, I was prescribed it when I felt that my current antidepressant just wasn't working. I took one pill without even taking a break from my other pill, and I was SO sick. I couldn't stop throwing up. After I was done throwing up, I slept for almost 13 hours straight. I definitely did NOT have a good experience on it. I am on welbutrin, and the only side effect I have from that is a little insomnia.

Re: Question for those who have taken Zoloft
That sounds like a panic attack to me Jill. I have had them since I was 8 and experience something similar. It is very possible the zoloft could have brought it on...if you are not prescribed the right medication or the right dosage, it can make symptoms worse or bring on other symptoms.
I am not really fond of regular MD's prescribing any kind of psychiatric medication...it's not their speciality. I think you should see a psychiatrist if you can fine one covered by insurance who I think would be able to get you on the right meds at the right dosage.
I have been on the same medication for years so I do go to my regular dr for a new prescription yearly, but if I ever needed to change meds or dosages I would go back to a psychiatrist.

Re: Question for those who have taken Zoloft
I take it and Honestly Never experienced any side effects at all unless I miss a few doses and start up again.
And Like the above poster said...IMO, what you experienced was a panic attack. My stomach gets SOOOO bad when I'm nervous and MORE so after having the c/s's. My Dr. thinks my C/S's actually contributed to my IBS now.
Give it time. Any side effects will wear off within a few days TOPS and yet the medication takes weeks to fully peak and work. For me its actually as long as 6 weeks before I feel an effect.
Try not to think about it at all. Easier said then done I know. FM me id you need to talk ok?

Re: Question for those who have taken Zoloft
I took it and had a similar experience. I actually thought I had the stomach virus. I found it to be very hard on my stomach at first, but it did get better. But after about 2 months I eventually switched off because I felt like it wasn't working and I was having other side effects (my breasts were killing me and my skin kept getting a burning tingling sensation). I've now been on Cymbalta for a little over a month and it's been much better for me.

Re: Question for those who have taken Zoloft
Sounds like the Zoloft might not have agreed with you. many antidepressents can actually increase anxiety and depression when you start them along with having many other side effects. You can either keep taking it and see if they dissipate over the next several days or try something else that may work better with your system. Just don't be a hero and try to stick out the side effects, I did that with Lexapro and it was a disaster for 8 months. Then I had to go through the disaster of weaning off of it which was just as bad. if I had listened to my body in the beginning I would have realized it wasn't a good fit from day one but I was trying to "push through" the initial side effects and not complain...bad idea HTH and feel better!
