Update in top post! - Wedding question...2nd marriage and wearing white??
So my boyfriend and I have been talking about marriage He's completely ready...I need a little more time...there is a move to Atlanta involved for me! But it has me thinking about the wedding...this is his first...my second. We want it to be away...on the smaller side...but he has a huge family so it won't be soo small...but it would be a destination wedding in the US or carribean. So the NBC morning show was talking about second weddings and if it's appropriate for the bride to wear white...YOUR THOUGHTS?
Updates with answers to the questions: _______________________________
So, I don't think I would wear white...I just want to know if I wanted to I could. I went through so much with that last marriage that lasted 10 months...and I want a beautiful wedding for myself and boyfriend to always remember. More so for him though...he deserves everything he always wanted on his special day!
As for the destination part....we were thinking keeping it in the states just for the $$ factor...however we will probably pay for most of the expense for the family...at least the hotel. But we just want a beach so Florida, even NC is an option...family and friends are all over the place on the east coast mostly..so traveling is a given for those that want to join us.
Thanks for the well wishes...this is a huge step...this is the man of my dreams...I truly never thought I would get so lucky. I can finally say...I am the luckiest woman in the world that my ex husband left me...my life will now be everything I have ever hoped for and more.

I think that it is appropriate to wear white. It's still your day no matter if you were married before. You should have as big of a wedding, or as small of a wedding as you want!

Re: Wedding question...2nd marriage and wearing white??
I think a white less formal dress is perfect for a second wedding
the symbolism of a white dress is virginity and if that was the case today- 99% of brides could not wear white!
congrats! how exciting!

Re: Wedding question...2nd marriage and wearing white??
I think the bride can weat whatever she wants. It's NOT true that wearing white is a symbol or purity or virginity. It is a fashion statement - period. It was started by Queen Victoria. She wore white to her wedding to prove she was wealthy enough to own a dress she could wear only once. (A white gown at that time was impractical b/c it would stain and get dirty and couldn't be cleaned properly)
Wealthy women followed suit, but the vast majority of people just wore whatever their best dress was to their wedding.
It is more symbol of wealth than of anything else.
Wear what you want to your wedding. Most of the second weddings I've been to the bride wore more like ivory or diamond white... some wore a cream color. I thought that was nicer, but it's your wedding - wear what you want.

Very interesting!
I probably wouldn't wear white...I'm not even sure if my first dress was really white...but the style and color I have in mind are completely different than the last...I wore a ball gown the first time around!

Re: Wedding question...2nd marriage and wearing white??
let's face it... the white wedding dress no longer is the white wedding dress of our mothers' generation!
if you feel comfortable in white, wear it.
at my wedding, this past october, i wore ivory... only because it looked better for the dress i chose (i think). it was my second his first.
granted, my first wedding was in a blue pant-suit at city hall.
btw, congrats on moving towards marriage with your bf.

Wear white! Go for it! I agree with what Beth said. The symbolism of a white dress went out the window for me

Re: Wedding question...2nd marriage and wearing white??
The only reason I did not wear white for my 2nd marriage is because I am too pale and it made me look sickly.
I had ivory.
Time as passed as to a formal etiquette. Some brides even wear other colors than white or ivory (red, color sash, etc...)
I had a wedding gown and a veil. It was just a single layer veil attached to the back of my head. I did not have a blusher and nobody gave me away.

I think you should wear whatever you want and would feel comfortable in (ie: would you be worried that others would comment on you wearing white?).

I think you should wear what you want! I just had my first wedding but I don't think I look good in bright white so I wore ivory.
Wear whatever you feel most comfortable in and what you think looks the best!
And congratulations on the upcoming wedding!

Re: Wedding question...2nd marriage and wearing white??
I do agree with doing/wearing whatever you want, but if I had to make a guideline, I'd say that if the second marriage was the 1st for the groom, and the bride's 1st marriage was short lived ( and especially if it was at a young age) then the bride absolutely should wear white if she felt like it.
It's also ok, to have a full out weding, and a shower & everything.
I think it is more natural to have a more subdued ceremony, when both people have been married before, especially if they are older, had been married for a long time, have older kids etc or if it is the 3rd or more marriage for either party.
But still, it's your party, you can always do whatever you want.
ETA- Ivory vs. white doesn't make a difference to me. You can't usually tell thr difference unless they are side by side, and many 1st time brides were ivory , b/c it looks better on them.

First off, congratulations this is a big step for you. I'm glad to hear you're happy again.
I wore ivory the second time around. I also did the big wedding again too. I got a religious annulment and did it all over again. I think you should wear whatever you feel comfortable in. As far as a carribean wedding, my BIL is getting married in Aruba in July...it's pricey for out of town guests. Have you thought about Florida or somewhere in between here and Atlanta?

I say white/ivory. I think most men pictured their wife-to-be going down the aisle in a white/ivory dress. I think your SO deserves nothing less.
Congrats on everything going so well!

Remember when I told you all of that dating would eventually pay off That was pretty quick too. Although I'm sure when you were out with the losers it seemed like an eternity
Best of luck to you
BTW: I've seen plenty of 2nd time brides wear white.

Thanks You!!! I always appreciated your advice greatly...just seeing where you were in your life...really gave me hope.
Yes, there were 47 wrong guys out there that I went out with at least once! But I found the one...#48!

Wear whatever you want. white, pink, gold anything. The dress is so unimportant, its the man your marrying.
I wore Ivory because I am so pale and his family flipped, I just didnt care. My friend wanted to wear champagne (gold) and her family talked her out of it and now when she looks at her wedding pics (12yrs later) she tells people thats not the dress she wanted

I think as many (if not more) brides wear ivory or diamond white as they do white. (I would never wear white - I am way too fair-skinned!)
