UPDATE: Is it ok for an almost 8 month old to...
Not be crawling or sitting up yet?
DS cannot do any of those things yet and I always get a little worried when I hear of babies his age and younger who are already doing it.

My nephew is 8 months old too. He is sitting up but he is not crawling yet. Every child works at their own pace. I would not worry.

Andrew does not crawl but he just started sitting up last week on his own and he will be 8 months old Thursday.
Don't worry

Re: Is it ok for an almost 8 month old to...
When I put him on the changing pad he can sit for a minute before tumbling down. But that's only on the changing pad where he can actually sit up for a little bit.

Re: Is it ok for an almost 8 month old to...
DD is almost 9 months old and refuses still to be on her tummy let alone crawl. She only likes to stand now, and walk when we hold her hands.
Some babies just don't crawl, they go right to walkin and that's okay.
My PED told me that since babies spend so much time on their backs, especially since the sids rule of back to sleep, most don't crawl anymore and that's okay.
Practice sitting him up, i used to put gianna on her tush and support her, sooner or later she went from assisted to tripod, to perfectly sitting on her own.

Yeah I heard about babies skipping crawling and going straight to walking. I guess what's concerning me more is him not sitting up yet.

Grace is 8.5 months old. She started sitting up 3 weeks ago and does the military crawl only. BUT she scoots around in her walker like crazy and "walks" when I hold her hands. I had the same concerns and the ped told me that every baby is different and that she actually might walk before she crawls. I am SO not ready for that!
Try not to compare. You know, my DH was a late crawler and walker and I was early. Yet he is the math whiz (computer programmer) and I am the social butterfly (I work in sales). I write all this to say all kids are different and if he is a late crawler, he might be a genius at math!

DD didn't start crawling until she was 9 months. As for sitting up, I would ask your doctor when to be concerned, my best friends son wasn't sitting up by 8 or 9 months and they found out he has low muscle tone...

Do you prop him up?
I used to prop Ali up on the couch with the boppy pillow and put her toys on it and she used to play. We also put her in the exersaucer and that holds her up too. And when I used to put her in the swing too - she used to try and sit up in there.

Re: Is it ok for an almost 8 month old to...
DD will be 8 months tomorrow. She pushes up on her hands, and starts to rock, but definitely no crawling yet. She has been sitting up for a few weeks on her own. She sits much better when she's distracted with a toy or something in front of her. When she realizes she sitting on her own, she loses her balance.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the fact that he's not crawling.... Like the poster above said I would call your ped to see when you should be concerned about him not sitting up on his own.

I do put him in the exersaucer Marcie...
Maybe I should try propping him up more. It's just that when I do prop him up to a sitting position he always moves around so much that he just ends up on his belly.

I wasn't saying you weren't It is not anything you are doing (or not doing), some babies do it and some don't. I wouldn't be too concerned, when he is ready he will do it. I was just trying to give you some suggestions in things to prop him up to see how he does.

Oh no Marcie I didn't mean it to sound that way. I was just simply saying that I do prop him up...
I appreciate the suggestions and will try propping him more, especially on the couch with the bobby...

You know what come to think of it I was a late walker. But I was not Math genius... I did good in that subject but was not genius.

How much practicing with DS should I be doing a day. Like how much should I leave him propped up on the couch or bed or whatever...

Do you think one of those bumbo chairs would help him learn to sit up?

I did it as long as Ali wanted to be sitting up.
I would try it a couple of times a day - but you also have to remember she ALWAYS wanted to sit up.

It might. Ali didn't like hers, she figured out how to worm out of it

Do you think it's too late in the game for me to get this for DS?
The most DS will do is try to lift his head up when in a laying down position as if he wants to get up but that's all he'll do. Is that start? or at least a sign?

The bumbo chairs are great. Not sure if it helped, but it was nice to be able to have them sit up. DD just started crawling at 9 months, it is like someone turned the switch on. Don't worry your little one will go when ready.

Well now i'm more concerned about him not being able to sit up.
Should I even not bother with the Bumbo chair at this point? I should have gotten it earlier...

Re: Is it ok for an almost 8 month old to...
Maybe borrow one, but I"m not sure if it helped her or not. I wouldn't say you have to go buy one at this pont. My friends son is a day older then my DD and he isn't sitting up on his own or crawling either. He rolls from side to side. Every baby is different. Just give him plenty of play time on the floor.
