UPDATE: No Sperm
Hi Ladies,
I've posted on this board before and everyone said that my DH and I should see an RE. I made the appointment, went for testing (blood, sono, etc) and my DH had SA done. We found out a month ago that his testosterone levels were really low so he was referred to a urologist also for a SA and bloodwork. On Thursday I had the appointment at RE, he had appointment at urologist same day so we didn't go together. RE went over SA........but there was nothing to go over. He had ZERO sperm. Not one. So for 3 days I've been devastated, not even wanting to leave my bed. From what I've read online, there's a 50% chance of him producing no sperm. If he does produce it, there might be a blockage, and they could do surgery and get some and then do IVF, so there's a chance. Now we're waiting for another urologist's office to call us back (he specializes in male IF) to set up the appointment, and I feel like I'm going to go out of my mind!!! Sorry so long, just needed to vent.
Update:
DH did second SA on Thurs at my RE's office, and he saw Dr. Mellinger today and we got results. He has sperm!!! His counts are still pretty low, but much better than zero!!! His count was 1 million, with 20% motility, although I'm not exactly sure what normal is. He does have a variococele in both testicles with is why his count is low. Thanks so much for all of your prayers!!!

Thanks for your prayers......I just did a search on these boards and it seems like it's possible that it was a fluke. I feel a little better now that maybe there's some hope.

Hi..I FM'd you. We had similiar issues and now here I am 12.5 weeks pg....take it one step at a time. My DH was not producing any (or barely) any sperm and for IVF#1 he had to have TESE done where they went in and extracted it.
eta Also I forgot to mention both times, we did ICSI, where they inject the sperm directly into the egg.

My cousin's Dh had a vasectomy and they went in and got the sperm. She now has a baby boy. Don't stress out yet, there is hope.

how many SA tests were done?
we had 2 b/c the first one went awry. they told us that there was almost no motitlity. good count, but they werent moving.
2nd test showed great results. So if you only had one done, i suggest getting a 2nd, maybe at a different lab just to be sure.
I was going bonkers for days thinking that DH's guys werent swimming and what we were going to do if that were the case.
Hang in there. technology is amazing and im sure there will be a way for you to work this out.

I was in the same boat as you last year. Do not lose hope just yet. Its possible your DH has sperm and there is just a blockage. As other posters have said, they can do a TESE/biopsy if there is a blockage and retrieve the sperm for IVF. That is what I did and will do again.
How many SA did your DH have? Mine had 3 plus a retrograde ejaculation test and a scrotal sonogram.
I know you are going to see a urologist, but if you ever want another recommendation for one, please FM me. Our urologist is just wonderful and I feel completely content and confident with her.
There is a lot to learn and go through at this point. Please feel free to FM me anytime since I have gone through/still going through the same thing.

Unfortunately I know what you are going thru... We were going thru this last year and I was totally in your shoes!! There is hope!!! If you want to FM me I can let you know the urologist that we are going to...

That is true- lab errors happen all the time- earlier this year my lab test came back that I had chlamydia! Nice, right? I didn't- I retested right away and it was negative- and then I retested AGAIN.... so i would totally have your DH get another SA at a different lab.

We had only one SA so far, my RE wants him to repeat the test in his office. I'm praying that it's an error at the lab. We have an appointment to see Dr. Mellinger next Monday, so we're hoping for the best!
