Update, not good This made me teary eyed this morning
One of my students has had a hard life so far. A few previous teachers has given me bits and pieces of her story. Well today I found out her guardian which is her Aunt had a stoke over the weekend. As my students mom told me she started to cry. I got teary eyed and thought OH NO . The family has decided that they arent going to let her suffer and that she will most likely pass in a few days.
This woman has done so much for her niece so it breaks my heart. The horrible part is that my student doesnt know she's dying, she just thinks shes in the hospital getting better. I really hope things turn around otherwise I dont see my student handling this well at all. Shes already behind as it and I know her family situation isnt the greatest.
Sigh, it times like this i wish I could just stop the feeling of hurt children shouldnt have to experience
UPDATE
Her aunt passed last night. While my students seems ok, I dont think she fully understood that she's gone. Sadly I had a child say, Good for her when she mentioned it today. I had the child apologize and write an apology letter.
Also before I knew the info I assigned a writing topic of writing abut a woman that is special to you for Women's history month. She wrote about her Aunt, while most kids wrote about their moms.

Sheeeeshhh! This breaks my heart! I really feel for your student. This worries me about becoming a teacher. I am too emotional.
I think the letter she wrote will be a good thing for her to always have in the future. You probably really inspired her to put into writing something special that she can treasure forever.

Yea she's holding up pretty well, my school gave letters to the kids in case parents want to send sympathy cards (tight knit school) to the family and she goes I didnt get one! I pulled her aside and explained what it was and shes like I want to send my auntie a card I dont think she truly understands everything yet and when she does im sure shes goin to cry alot.

We dont have a school psych we are a very small school.
Is the school at least providing some sort of counseling? Do you all have a guidance counselor?

Nope, sad thing is she told me today now that her aunt was gone she has no one to talk to
