Update on my Paleo progress!
Hi girls!
I just wanted to update you on how amazing Paleo has been for me. I started a month and a half ago and have already lost 11 lbs and feel amazing! All my clothes are fitting better and I no longer have to deal with the constant ups and downs on the scale. The number just keeps going down no matter how much I eat!
I no longer have to count calories. I just eat when I'm hungry!
No more carb crashes, sugar crashes, bloating, or feeling gross in general.
I HIGHLY highly recommend this way of eating for ANYONE struggling with weight fluctuations and stomach bloat. I love it!
I still have about 5 lbs left till I'm at my wedding weight and maybe another 10 after that, but I'm not in a rush. I feel amazing right where I am and I know it's just going to keep getting better.
If anyone needs help getting started with Paleo, please feel free to ask me any questions you may have!

Wow--that sounds really great-- How did you start? What do you eat in a typical day? I know people say you get used to no bread and stuff but I can't imagine that!

Re: Update on my Paleo progress!
I eat pescetarian so most of my protein is from fish and protein powder. The first week was really difficult getting over the sugar cravings and fatigue as my body converted from burning mostly carbs for energy to burning fat for energy.
I don't follow Paleo 100% as I allow myself to have cheese and I will have a small bite of rice or whatever I am making for my family. But, the great thing about this is a bite is more than enough. My body doesn't crave that stuff anymore!
http://www.primal-palate.com/ http://www.paleomg.com http://www.marksdailyapple.com/ http://www.elanaspantry.com/
The above are all great resources.
Typically for breakfast I will have a green smoothie. (Coconut milk, 2 big handfuls of baby spinach, protein powder, 1 cup of frozen fruit) Or I may have eggs over guacamole. For lunch I will sometimes have tuna fish mixed with an avocado or some sort of salad. If I'm not feeling that hungry I will have a Larabar. Dinner can be a BIG piece of salmon or other fish (the fattier the better), with sauteed vegetables. I also love making garlic mashed cauliflower. (It's like mashed potatoes but 100 times more delicious!) Throughout the day I will snack on nuts, carrots with almond butter, dried fruits, etc.
I may be starting a blog soon with some of my favorite recipes and will certainly let you girls know when it's up!

Re: Update on my Paleo progress!
I have been on it for almost 4 weeks now and almost down 10 lbs!!! I can't believe it and I feel like I eat more than I did before.. I agree it is the easiest "diet" I have ever been on
I don't count calories, portion control..I eat a lot and whenever I want!!!
I just eat Meat, fruit and veggies! and lots and lots of water!
"If you can't kill it or grow it,then dont eat it!" and if it has a nutritional label with multiple ingredients than it probably shouldn't be eaten!
No "bad" carbs - (rice, pasta, breads), no dairy, no beans, no peanuts, no sweets!
I def recommend for those who don't feel they have the time or the money to do another diet!
ETA: typical day of meals: -i eat eggs, onion, and bacon omelet for breakfast -butternut squash, bacon and onion soup for lunch and usually leftover meat from dinner -a big bowl of spaghetti squash with turkey meat sauce!

Update on my Paleo progress!
soy is not allowed. Coconut yogurt is okay but only as an occasional cheat. It is still processed and has tons of sugar in it. You can make it yourself pretty easily. There are links for this all over the web.
Sun Warrior Protein is the protein that paleo people usually use and recommend. It's not for a strict paleo diet but it is not bad. Lara bars are not paleo.

Re: Update on my Paleo progress!
Very interesting!
Although why are beans and/or nuts not allowed on this diet? Being that they aren't "processed foods".
Also, is tuna allowed being it comes in an aluminum can???
TIA.

Re: Update on my Paleo progress!
Just wondering why bacon is allowed. Bacon is certainly processed. Are hot dogs allowed? I also don't see how eating bacon several times a day can be healthy. Especially when combined with eggs and red meat at other meals.

Re: Update on my Paleo progress!
Nuts are allowed. Peanuts are not true nuts. And all the nuts you eat should be raw.
The term “legumes” refers to a whole group of foods that include different kinds of beans, including soybeans, lentils, and peas. Then there’s the little lone garbanzo bean – also a legume – and peanuts. Nutritionists have told you for years that these foods are high in nutrients and a good protein source. However, that’s a little questionable now that the data is in. These foods are high in carbohydrates and low in protein, comparatively. This means that if you’re expecting to use them in your diet as a protein source, you better figure out what exactly you’re going to do about the insulin reaction from all that carbohydrate. In fact, many legumes contain 2 to 3 times as much carbohydrate as protein. On another note, legumes contain phytates that bind up minerals in food so the minerals are unavailable for your body to use. They also can cause bloating and gas, as the carbohydrates in them is digested pretty easily by gut bacteria but not your own body. With all this bloating and gas, there’s inflammation – and another reason you want to eliminate legumes from your diet. Soybeans are actually another very questionable food. In the last decade, some scientists came out from behind their white lab coats and told people via the media that soy accelerates brain damage and degeneration and may also be associated with immunity problems. You’ll find experts out there who swear by soybeans while others are vehemently opposed to it. Still others say soy is okay only if it’s fermented. On a Paleo diet, you don’t have to make up your mind about soy. You simply won’t be eating it. And as for the peanut, well, the facts tie in these good-tasting nuts to the lectin protein and inflammation connection. Peanut lectins are tied to inflammation in your gut

Where is this information from? Soy has been a staple in Asian diets for thousands of years and people in these cultures are some of the healthiest on the planet. So are people who live in mediterranean, and beans are a huge part of their diet.

It's just one set of beliefs. I do like to have beans occasionally but soy is a no no for me.
Soy has been linked to increased estrogen and a wealth of other problems.

So much different info out there. I watched the documentary Forks over Knives a few months back and that made me want to cut out meat and Dairy from my diet. The doctors on there did a ton of research about how meat and dairy can cause cancer and are not good for your body. I got the cook book and they use alot of beans, Vegtables, fruits, rice, soy, nuts, tofu. Normal Vegan diet. I haven't cut out meat completely but cut it down. So much different research out there. It's hard to know what is right and wrong. I know a few people who started eating the Paleo Diet and did really well on it.

the thing with Paleo is you can't really say if it is good or not because right now it is just a fad. It hasn't been around long enough to say if there are any long term benefits or detriments, whereas there has been a ton of research on the ill effects of diets high in red meat. I also feel like you can't compare today's humans to those of 50,000 years ago. 50,000 years ago most people didn't live past their thirties. They may have very likely gotten cancer, heart disease, etc, if they'd lived long enough to have these ailments develop in their bodies.
I think everyone should do what they feel is best for them, but I also think that sometimes a lot of people jump on a bandwagon that isn't necessarily the healthiest option. Paleo reminds me a lot of the Atkins diet that was all the rage not that long ago.

Update on my Paleo progress!
It's not really a fad and it's been around for quite some time. It just went mainstream recently. I've been eating like this for a very long time.
There is a ton of researach about it and it does promote a lot more than what people here talk about. It's a very clean way of living. It's all organic. It's more than just what you eat, but what you put on your body as well. Such as lotins, soaps, etc.

there are a lot of misconceptions... you are not encouraged to eat bacon several times a day. thats not true at all. i do primal blueprint (slightly different from paleo) and i think if you read the book the primal blueprint it makes perfect sense. you can borrow it if you want.

Yea, I agree with Julz It isn't suggested that you eat it several times a day or even every single day. It just sort of became like joke. Especially among Crossfitters.

Yes, but beans were properly prepared by traditional cultures by being soaked and sprouted. This process reduces the phytic acid so that it's not longer an anti-nutrient.
Asian cultures also properly prepared their soybeans by fermenting them.
