update on winthrop experience (since many have asked recently)
I just delivered by repeat section on Monday. My experience this time was even better than last and last time was pretty great.
You can no longer pay for a private room though they "do everything they can to accomodate all requests." Be NICE to your labor/deliver or OR nurses, it pays off Our OR nurse hooked us up with a private room - she was amazing. I did have a rough section so maybe that helped (bad BP problems, bleeding etc) and DD was almost sent to NICU for fluid issues BUT, being nice doesn't hurt. I didn't even have to ask, she made a call and we got a private room.
The nursing staff was AMAZING. At first, we were set to BF but it didnt work out. No one tried to convince us otherwise or pressure us either way. 100% our decision.
No problems getting formula when requested. They have both enfamil or similac.
"Rooming in" is not mandatory. I sent DD back to the nursery every night around 9-10pm and she was brought back to me by 8am the next morning.
They DO NOT give pacifiers any longer. If you want to use one, bring it. They also only suggest solid plastic like soothie or first year. We used MAM and got an ear full from 3 nurses (since they are two seperate pieces of plastic and "can be" a choking hazard.
I left on day 3! I had an excellent recovery this time, much less pain. Everyone went above and beyond and we 100% recommend Winthrop!

This is so true... I delivered a week ago there and had a wonderful experience. The nurses were great and so helpful. They put me in a double but I never had a roommate. I too sent DS to the nursery and they brought him back to me around 7 everyday. It is true about the pacifiers... I wasable to get one but they did tell me as of Monday thy were no longer able to give them out. Everyone was amazing at Winthrop!!!

When I asked for one there last week they said that the American association of pediatrics says now that pacifiers should not be used on babies younger than 3 months. Therefore o more pacis

It all depends on whom you speak with I guess. We were told it had to do with the breast feeding initiative. Our nurse actually told us we should use one - proven to reduce risk of SIDS but just a solid plastic one like soothie or first years.
