UPDATE! Runners that run outside--what time do you run?
Update:
Today was our first run here in NY, and it wasn't bad at all. We decided that 2 days a week we will get up at 6:00 am and run 1 mile and work on speed. Then on one weekend day, we will run a little later in the morning and work on improving distance. We'll see how long into the winter we can last! Last winter in MD we had to stop by late November because it was just too cold in the morning.
DH and I used to run around 6:45 am each day, but that was when he could get into work at 9:15 and his commute was a 15 min drive.
Now, with his new job he has to be in at 8:00 and his commute is a 30 min subway ride. Our choices now are to get up at 6:00 and do a short run and be VERY efficient about it, or run after he gets home from work, which is between 6:30 and 7:00 pm.
Given those choices, which would you do? It is getting darker earlier, but also in the fall the sun will rise later and later. So either way we'll be running in the dark I guess.
Any thoughts? How is it running in the dark?

Re: Runners that run outside--what time do you run?
I am horrible at waking up early so on Tuesday and Thursday nights I meet up with a few girls and we run at 6:15 for an hour. Yes it will be dark on but I have a reflector vest and we stay on the sidewalks mostly! I don't mind it at all. However If I could myself to get up early I would love to but it never happens!

Re: Runners that run outside--what time do you run?
I run a few days a week with coworker before we start work. We run @ 6:30. Honestly, I like running in the dark when half the world is asleep. It's very peaceful. I probably also feel that way because I have a partner.
We have flashing lights that we wear on our clothing. We are looking into sashes right now though because we have recently almost been run over--after a year of running in the mornings. Not too bad I guess.

I run as late as 8:30pm sometimes- I wear a reflective vest.

Re: Runners that run outside--what time do you run?
I'm lucky that I'm out of work by 3:30, so when the days get shorter, I can go afterwork.

I don't work until the afternoon, so I run in the morning (around 9-10).
If I had to choose between early morning and night, I would run in the morning. I feel like it starts my day off the right way.

Re: Runners that run outside--what time do you run?
I run at 5:30am. With 2 very young children, I feel I need to be back and ready before they wake up. And I know if I don't do it in the morning, I won't at night because it's too crazy in my house between getting everyone fed, bathed, changed etc. It's sometimes hard to wake up, but once I'm out, I feel so much better. I also have a treadmill, so if it's not great out, I will opt to run indoors.

I teach- waking up at 4:30 is something I do not want to do - so I go directly after work 3:30-4:00.

Re: UPDATE! Runners that run outside--what time do you run?
i run at 5am b/c i have little kids and once the nighttime comes all bets are off that i'll be out running.my sister comes along for those am runs and that is my only motivation. i hate running in the dark and try to stay on very well lit roads.
